MAY 29 - According to local news channels, due to short circuit, fuel tank of a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jet caught fire at Samungli Air Base. The aircraft was undergoing maintenance work when this incident happened.

Fire has been controlled and extinguished. The aircraft is completely destroyed. No reports of injuries or loss of life.

Most probably F-7, because it is on Samungli.

The media did a kind of a frenzy, as if something huge had happened, GEo were saying that the PAF is not letting them enter the airbase and were making a hash of it.

BTW, what are the Fire systems used by the PAF, like the fire vehicles/tenders, Oshkosh or Stryker or simple Hino trucks?

PAA uses simple trucks.

most likely F-7PG interceptor from number 17 Squadron tigers or number 23 talons .

Thats Bull....
Dont they have strict safety protocols and fire fighting systems in place to extinguish the fire before it consumes the plane....

There are 2 fire extinguishers beside the aircraft, and a handler at all times, when the aircraft is being fueled up, getting started, APU/GPU, maintenance, at all times.

The fire is reported to have started from the fuel tank, short circuit, so it could have engulfed pretty quickly. But why was fuel there in the tank when maintenance was going on, if indeed it was deep maintenance.

I am sure the questions would be answered by the investigation team of the PAF.

.
(nevermind, this incident is different, it is all maintenance causes).

The aircraft was undergoing maintenance work when this incident happened.

It is not crash news, it is due to maintenance caught fire undergoing in old retired obsolete jet.

. .
media demanded to go inside the base? lol

Which aircraft is that???????

And what happen to PAF why so many incidents, crashes and accidents so suddenly???

sadly, recently the PAF investigation team is very busy, esp since PAF had a crash free year in 2011.

I have been quite concerned about these crashes and mishaps and a nation like ours has a very proud flying history and these problems are putting our proud ancestry to shame. Have standards fallen, have people got lazy, are parts defective or counterfeit.

The question is not only PAF or even PAA, or PNA but as a whole our recent flying record has been shambolic, take airblue and bhoja, PIA is banned for flying rubbish jets and our CAA is manned by people hardly qualified to do the job and has no power to implement the international law of flight airworthiness.

We need to take stock and bring in a better flight safety culture.

I would advise people not to confuse civil aviation incidents and military ones.

There is a huge difference in the procedures.

I was only bringing the mishaps together not the procedures. I am aware that the military flying is a risky venture due to the nature of the beast, however it is necessary to look at all institutions of the state and ask that they implement the best safety procedures out there.

I know even the yanks and rich nations have their fair share of military crashes and mishaps but if we can improve it would for our own benefit.

I wouldn't worry to much about these type of accidents... This sort of stuff happens often with our Air Force as well..

Just learn from the mistakes and move on :)
