The one potential drawback -- besides the MTCR-limited range -- is that it could get costly to buy these in numbers. It's an import and every import of a SOM will take away from working on making the Ra'ad compatible with the JF-17. One solution (which we spoke about a few years ago with @JamD) was making a ALCM similar to the SOM, i.e. a 'Ra'ad Lite'.This is something what JFT should have in it's arsenal.

The encouraging part is the development of "Ra'ad II", which means there is certainly a program to evolve the Ra'ad. It would be absolutely stupid if one such development isn't the "Ra'ad Lite".The one potential drawback -- besides the MTCR-limited range -- is that it could get costly to buy these in numbers. Why should we have an imported weapon when we do have our own indigenous system similar to this one. If we need some additional features then we must try to incorporate them in our own system rather than buying an imported one.
SOM is ready for 5th gen bird i.e. F-35 while Pakistan will need to develop one for it's 5th gen bird also it has better stealth then ra'ad and different type of seeker too, it can complement current inventory of ALCM.
