What is more correct for BD. I thought the name of the river was "paddah". So where is this "padma" come from?
7 pages for a simple patrol boat with brainless Indians trolling. And can anybody tell me how the hell is this an warship albeit its a decent achievement. If this is causing this much agony among Indians, I wonder what these lunneys would do if Inshallah we make an Indigenous frigate in the future.
As I thought, this ship was built by Chinese and is Bangladeshi in name only.
You can see 2 chinese in the above pic.
i think khulna shipyard should from some Co-operation with "garden reach shipbuilders & engineers" (GRSE) kolkata as this, being the the oldest shipyard in India, has tonnes of experience in indegenously desigining and building heavier ships like the destroyers, frigates etc..this will help khulna shipyard to indegenously design and develop the future ships of BN,which,i guess, would be heaviour, stealthier, and incorporated with missiles and other accessories
But in sylhoti, we pronounce it as "paddah". Right or wrong? The original bengali accent and pronunciation is Padma. Check the bengali spelling.

That name "Padma" is for literate Bangalis, i.e. Bangalis who can read and write Bangla lipi.
The rest can spell it differently; like in Chattagrami for instance.
I like to add a bit. Bengali is a very fluid and dynamic language. Within the last one millennium it changed almost entirely. So when the spelling which was probably added to the dictionary in 19th century the literate and illiterate both pronounced it as Padma, but as the language evolved and the pronunciation shifted to its current form, its time to change the spelling as well. The written form of the languages are harder to change than the colloquial language.
Unlike other languages Bengali does adopt better spelling as the language evolves. The written form suppose to reflect exact form of pronunciation in Bengali. In English its not the case.
What a beautiful ship this Padma is!! This shows the real image of this vessel. But, I do not like that lady PM sitting in the pilot's cabin with cap on her head. It is an ugly site.
Is that the real reason?
Was there an evolution or a distortion in pronunciation vis-a-vis the spelling?
The Bengali language as it is spoken lacks certain sounds e.g. the "Va" sound. Though the consonant exists in the alphabet. Of course the spellings in time may be altered to accommodate dialects even which have even more distorted pronunciations e.g. from Chittagong or even Cox's Bazaar or the CHT. Even that will be evolution?
