What's new

PAC Spells Out Project Azm, FGFA Program, etc.

Chine participation is a very broad concept

Which company involved? CAC, SAC, some university or institute, or other subsystem vendor
what role played? Leading, responsible, assisting, consultant

different level of involvement lead to different result

just wish good luck
I think the PAF would prefer working with Chengdu/CAC (past experience via JF-17 and F-7P/PG) on the aircraft design, engineering and development side. However, I think they'll look to pull-in as many different (and trusted) partners for the multitude of inputs (off-the-shelf, co-produced, ToT and locally developed). @messiach they had elevated the contact with Russia to an annual high-level meeting via the JMCC. Pakistan only has such meetings with China, Turkey and Italy...

Project development is in logical steps. Its always easy sticking to mature designs. The next fighter would be logical evolution of block3. F7 > F7pg | fc1-1 > fc1-2 > fc1-3 > FGF.

LOL. UK has already announced 6th generation project.....just look at the specs and weapon systems planned for the aircraft. Unbeliever.

How many 5th gen front line birds UK have deployed till now??

i think it is almost impossible for us to develop 5 gen aircraft due to weak economy and less investment in education or research.russia is struggling with su57 and this project is in danger of ending although they have more know how than Pakistan to develop aircrafts.j20 seems to be best option for us .

before all that
the most critical factor is low quality engineers that our universities are producing.

Very ambitious project... hope it succeeds.

If it were upto me, I would use the existing expertise and knowledge gained from the JF-17 to build a completely indigenous twin engine 4.5 gen jet along the lines of the F-18. Once we had achieved that then aiming for a fifth gen fighter would have been easier.

Then Pak would be too far behind forever playing catch up. China already has made considerable strides in 5th gen tech by investing billions in various different technologies...with their assistance Pak can propel itself forward rather than playing catch up.

Key here would be dont try to re invent the wheel...

The things which are available readily and reliably... take them from suppliers and then build on that

“The new engine will be designed using advanced tools and methods in order to leverage advanced computational designs. The eventual FCAS powerplant will incorporate embedded starter-generators that eliminate the need for conventional accessory gearboxes, using magnets that are fused to the shaft of the engine, converting kinetic energy to electrical energy and generating electrical power from the heart of the engine.
It will also make extensive use of advanced materials including ceramics, composite materials, and metal matrix materials with reinforced titanium to confer a step-change in thrust-to-weight ratio. Conrad Banks, Rolls Royce’s Chief Engineer for Future Defence Programmes estimated that by using composite fibre reinforcement of titanium, a compressor ‘wheel’ could be produced at half the current weight, because the strength increase is so great.
Additive layer manufacturing, 3D manufacturing with advanced materials, promises to allow the introduction of cooling structures that would previously have been impossible further reducing the weight, and further increasing the efficiency of the gas turbine.
Because they will be located behind potentially quite convuluted intakes (in order to remove the line of sight from the gas turbine) the new engines will feature distortion-tolerant fan systems. They will also feature a fully-integrated thermal management system, perhaps using a variable bypass to reduce specific fuel consumption, and perhaps using large ducts or pipes on the side of the engine to deliver bleed cooling air for the vehicle and for the gas turbine.”
@messiach

From a report on the tempest.
All it takes is picking up ideas and following up on them. If only the right channels are listening

@messiach seems like CMCs are maturing and replacing super alloys progressively.

@Bilal. distortion tolerance is key here.

@Bilal. distortion tolerance is key here.

Thats why its a progressively process of deletion... as they get better characteristic through the coatings they replace a part facing greater stress. In any case we need core materials technology research. Without that we will remain where we are.

As USA's relation is changing with the world, PAC will now have good chance to gain access to technologies from West. I think if PAF try can easily get Engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada other than Russian & Chinese options for project Azam.

P&W Canada should be one of the last options. Take this from someone who has worked with them before. There are others out there.

Asian Military Review just published their interview with ACM Mujahid Anwar Khan. Basically confirms everything @messiach has been saying about Project Azm, i.e., the goal is for a completely indigenous design. Also, seems the PAF's new LIFT requirement is mostly split between the L-15 and M-346.
