PAC Spells Out Project Azm, FGFA Program, etc.

Asian Military Review just published their interview with ACM Mujahid Anwar Khan. Basically confirms everything @messiach has been saying about Project Azm, i.e., the goal is for a completely indigenous design. Also, seems the PAF's new LIFT requirement is mostly split between the L-15 and M-346.

If you want to get a indigenous next generation fighter by 2047 then the focus should be for a six generation fighter rather then fifth generation fighter as the time you get your fighter six generation will be the fighter of that time.

I thin paf focus is 6th gen as chief already declared it but do we have that potential?

Not sure how much life left in t-37s to be upgraded with glass cockpit ??
Last slep in 2000s had added another 7-8000 hours so looks like still long way to go ??

But trainer fly more than fighter per year as well assuming 300-500 hundred hours a year per aircraft ??

Should Pakistan revisit the Saab FS2020 Design for Project AZM; A design that would be more maneuverable then a conventional one, but still stealth; with enough room for internal stores. It is basically a mini-J-20. It would have great export prospect in a world with 1000's of F-35s and Su-57 aircraft; smaller nations can keep up at an affordable price.

I think Azm will become our Tejas. It is a strategic mistake by PAF. They should have designed a replacement for Mushtaq first.. and then a turboject trainer, designed a LIFT jet rather than buying it off the shelf first before attempting Project Azm.......

Turkey has the right approach and direction and look to be successful. India did it backwards and paid the price for it quite badly. Hasn't PAF learnt anything from these two examples ???

Turkey is doing it alone, india tried alone as well, we have chinese namely 4 biggest aviation complexes in the world on pakistani side. When u have Brotherly nations like china and pakistan, thesr things are very small... Think big, think very big.

Dude chinese aircraft are designed and produced in half the time as compared to united states or europe. Don't worry about it. Chinese are guiding pakistaniz . with someone's guidance u don't make mistakes they made years ago. Thank God Almighty for friends like chinese. China is very very Powerful and efficient.

HIGHLY UNLIKELY!

thats the eventual goal.....in next 20-30 years....as Project Azm finishes this is where we will jump into without a break!

The Turks don't think so, they are working with Saab on the TFX project. Why "20-30 years"? Pakistan defines its requirements, designs are submitted and tested in wind tunnels and by other means, and a design is then picked. The sub-systems can be developed locally and integrated when they become mature. The aircraft design work can be done in a few years.

Funding the program is the real issue. Training the people and transferring the technology can happen in 5-10 years for local R&D and production. Pakistan isn't starting from scratch; it has the experience gained by producing part of the JF-17.

This is why looking at designs currently being worked upon can help us better consider what elements we require in the design that fits our needs.

why not lead the way and come out with our own ideas? we r a successful battle tested force and top of line professionals....why not let the world follow us?

As for Saab, not a trusted ally atleast not enough....Turks have their own situation and scenario.

As America gets out of Afghanistan (be it today or in future) it will sanction us DPRK style!

Sweden is their vessel state, they dont have an independent Foreign Policy, they had sanctioned us after 1998 nuclear tests!

It seems "ITAR free" will be the main consideration in this strategic project and It is underlined that The AZM will be indigenous. PAF won't be dependent on neither East nor West. It means We will see many subsystem collaboration and sub-contracts regarding specific areas between other states but I think Pakistan will need to require a partner which will provide not only consultancy service but also help to design applications for a 5th generation fighter during Phase-1 but Most probably, The states who is willing to share ToT to Pakistan, should have to sign a guarantee latter not to issue any difficulty on system/subsystem level when the aircraft itself matured for domestic and export markets.

Everyone copies from everyone else, R&D done by one nation inspire others to use the best of what is know about a technology and to modify the designs to suit our own needs.

I think it's still in the air (no pun intended), but if I had to guess, they might want to raise a new gas turbine enterprise to get it done? @messiach

the design of compressor and turbine blades is complex engineering as well as the combustion chamber. if Pakistan can crack that then we will leap frog our adversaries.

In future, A likely joining decision into TrMotor 27000+lbf turbofan engine program seems a logical for Pakisani AZM program in this aspect. According to article posted by Mr Bilal, the time frame of Azm and this engine program is convenient to AzM. It is expected that Rolce-Royce will also be a partner of this engine program. The diameter of engine is known at present and TF-X is designed around ongoing engine dimensions. Pakistan may also apply similar method in design phase. At the end of the day, Both nation would have gained gas turbine engine design and manufacturing process in a long term cooperation program.
