PA paying compensation to terrorists families: Indian Caucus chairman

When it comes to Pakistan, nobody takes Gary Ackerman seriously on the Hill because of his extreme views and pro-India bias.

All are heard and whenever Ackerman has his moments, he tries to rip into Pakistan as it helps the Indian position.

In terms of impact..that remains to be seen. Congress will always have the Indian tilt, yet the administration and State department tend to be more realistic and closer to the situation than those sitting in Congress.

.
This is all reporting on the same conference as far as I can tell is it not karan?

As for some of the more outlandish claims made in it, no evidence has been provided by Ackerman or anyone else, which places the credibility of the entire process under a cloud.

Given that some members of the US Congress can put the historically strong US-Turkey relationship at risk by passing a resolution on the alleged 'Armenian Genocide' because of pressure from the strong Armenian-American community, it isn't a surprise to see the anti-Pakistan lobby influencing some in the US legislature to make statements such as these.

But both remain politically motivated statements/rants and events, rather than a credible and factual analysis.

Am not too sure but surely seems like it. But the comments are from different speakers. You could ignore the fillers which are provided by the news service (indian in this case) but the comments from this conference are not only from traditional Indian supporters like Ackerman but others like Marvin Weinbaum, Daniel Benjamin, Garry Reid and even traditional Kashmir hawk Dan Burton.

As I said, some pretty strong lobbying happening.

And in view of current Afghan affair, These pro-India lobby failed to mint any concession for Bharat so far.

A little off topic, but mods please excuse me for it..

A lot of Pakistani members at times try to use the term Bharat or Bhartiya so as to increase sarcasm in their post against India. I find it a bit strange. Do they think Indians take being called Bhartiya as an insult.?? Quite the contrary actually...As long as you dont mis spell it..:azn:

Back to topic.. Is it possible that this sudden spurt in Anti LeT statements in the US govt circles, is a quid pro quo for India tempering down in Afg??

A very strange comment, especially when Bharat or Bharatiya word is used in numerous Indian movies, dramas, Bharat Electronics etc etc kind of so many organizations named with this word and God knows where not these two words used.

So get over with this thinking that we Pakistanis use this Bharat or Bharatiya words in derogatory sense.

Yet another obsession i would say.

Thats exactly what I am trying to say.. Being called Bhartiya is same as being called an Indian.. No difference.. However all you have to do is search for the term on PDF and see the contexts..

But anyway.. no harm done..

In Urdu, the proper name for your country is "Bharat" and the citizens are "Bharatis". Its as simple as that.

We are called far worse by your side.

Yet Another One... US officials seem to be going after LeT now. Seems like a build up ahead of an event.. Specially since the noises are not only from congressmen
Jehadi Terror Outfit LeT Not Yet On Pakistan's Radar: Gen Petraeus

Jehadi Terror Outfit LeT Not Yet On Pakistan's Radar: Gen Petraeus
3/17/2010 4:02 AM ET
(RTTNews) - A top American Army General says that jehadi terror outfits, including Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), are not yet on the radar of the establishment in Islamabad though the Islamic country is waging a "serious war" against terrorism in the tribal areas of the country bordering Afghanistan.

Appearing before the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday, General David Petraeus, Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Central Command under whose area of operations both Pakistan and Afghanistan come, said elements including LeT were not yet on the radar of Pakistan, "which is waging a serious war against terrorism in the tribal areas of the country bordering Afghanistan, in particular the Taliban and Al-Qaida."

The four-star General said the need to take action against the organization, blamed for the November 2008 Mumbai attacks, was Washington's "source of dialogue" with Islamabad. The Obama Administration had quite a bit of interaction with the government of Pakistan over the LeT's activities after the Mumbai attacks--blamed on the LeT--that killed 166 people, including many Americans, he added.

"Obviously, India has expressed its concerns as well (on LeT)," he said replying to a question.

His observations came close on the heels of the suggestion of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake that Pakistan rein in the LeT, given its increasing capacity to target other countries, including the U.S.

He said Saturday in an interview: "Lashkar-e-Taiba is a terrorist group based in Pakistan that has increasingly global ambitions and global scope--and so it's in the interests of Pakistan to rein in its activities."

In a sign of growing concern in the U.S. over the rise of the LeT, his comments came a day after a hearing on the Capitol Hill where Congressmen noted, "The LeT has put the world on notice that they intend to escalate the carnage and spread it worldwide."

No confusion on my side on this. However, I was refering to some Members trying to call us Bhartiyas as if its some kind of a derogatory term like the P word for Pakistanis.. Just wanted to communicate to them that they probably need to find a different word since for us being called a Bhartiya is an honor..
