Overwhelming rise in petroleum prices

increasing prices of petrol will make life of amm Pakistanis worse!

The irony is that no matter how the prices rise the number of cars on the roads remain unaffected.

There is a strange pattern to it owing to the fruits of democracy ... eventhough this problem basically started in the times of our good old uncle Mushy . When the prices rise in international market our government has an excuse to increase prices but when they drop (which often happens in international trade) , either it takes a while for the government to announce the drop in prices or the drop is very meager compared to the drop in international prices. On the other hand wheat and sugar prices are increased on the pretext of rise in their prices in international market but when their prices drop in international market our 'ethical' businessmen with links to the corridors of power (both in Islamabad and Lahore) collude and the price stays the same . As a consumer its a zero sum game for us for 'the people our votes elect' its a win-win game . A messiah needed .. A messiah needed.

Still cheaper than in India :-(

Petrol prices are around INR 53 ... close to PKR 100 (roughly)

yaar fedup with this kind of statements... u live in India you have everything status level system GDP with your country people affordability system we have everything with our system.. stop comparing everything everytime.... if civic in Pakistan cost 20 lacs and in your country our 20 lacs is 10 lacs it doesnt mean in Pakistan Civic is actually cheap... if 10 lac is 10 lac in India same like 20 lacs is 20 lacs in Pakistan

To cover the spending on luxuries zardari, nawaz and tola needed increase in their budget therefore price hiked.

I am wondering the new so called technocrat suggested that price hike? That was the most stupid move/decision on Govt's part couple of rupees increase might make sense but 7-9 Rupees.

Honestly Pakistan economic system has completely collapsed and failed, I would even say Pakistan has no Economic Plan, the one we have is from 1960's i believe that is why things aren't working things have changed.

There must be a Tax System similar to Canada/US where whre each and every individual must be held accountable with dead lines to fill T-Forms except the Tax system have a few amendments to it that is no return by Govt as well as anyone owning income 50,000 or more must be Taxed.
The Tax must be withdrawn by the Govt from individuals' accounts.
Yearly Road Tax should be increased by say 15% after all many people own single or 2 or more vehicles. And that is once a year payment I am sure people can afford it.
There are so many areas that can be taxed and people won't feel the burden but Govt is stupid enough.

This isn't as black and white as you are making it to be....If we look from pure economics than oil subsidies are bad economics. They bring in a big hole in your revenue and lead to fiscal deficit which means less money for Govt. to spend on other sectors which in turn will create more revenue opportunities and ultimately bring back the benefits to netizens in the forms of more jobs, healthy economy, control on inflation etc etc....

However from a political pov this is a very unpopular move(taking out subsidy) because it directly impacts the masses and in turn your vote banks. Economic benefits that are associated with such a bold move will take more than 5 years to show real benefits, in short no govt will be able to reap benefits of the good work they have done and only invite the wrath of common man....

The best way to deal with this catch 22 is to increase the prices of oil when international prices jumps but don't bring them down along with international market. People memory is short and they will adapt to the new price after some time....GOI did take a very bold move recently and take off the subsidy altogether...I believe high time GOP should follow....This is overall very good for your economy though i agree sinister for poor...

The thugs are same no matter where you go...not sure how many times messiah would like to come...
