Brain drain was a big talk about 25-30 years back in India. At that time most of the higher professional education was under government control and heavily subsidised. People going out after, getting education at taxpayers expense, was considered a big loss.
At that time, there was no visibility or assessment of long term impact of this drain, on economic and sociological aspects.

These have changed in the last decade or so. Those who left India, long back are now trying to contribute back in many ways. They have also formed a diaspora that is growing powerful everyday. They form highest earning group of people in most of the nations they have gone. Their influence on their countries of stay is proving to be an unexpected boon these days.

Nowadays, majority of the education has become private and number of professionals being generated is very high. It isn’t possible to give them adequate opportunities. They can find their calling wherever they choose to.
Would this cause a drain on India?

India isn’t trying to stop anyone. Only people alarmed, are probably on this forum who are trying to sensationalise this aspect and hoping this to become a negative for India.

Well they can keep dreaming and hoping.

This video is based on perceptions. He perceives that Indians leave as soon as they become experts. He hasn’t done any data analysis to see this objectively.
Let me give some numbers - India produces 1.5 million (yes 1.5 million) engineers every year. Out of that about 10% are from institutions that have very good reputation. That would make 1.5 lakh engineers of decent caliber. This is just engineers. There are many other fields that produces professionals.

How many of these can go abroad? A minuscule number of these can get an opportunity abroad. Rest of them stay and work in India.

The tech behemoths in India are thriving in software as well as hardware space. Infosys, TCS, WIPRO and many other big global companies are doing well. The list is quite long. The manpower churn in this sector is a well known phenomenon.

Western countries do give a better quality of life and there are aspirational people who want to go. Well it’s a free world and no one is stopping them. Additionally, these people contribute back in many ways (soft and hard power) that has become a cause of heartburn for other countries in the region.

Basically, it ain’t a drain on anyone. We have more than enough brains remaining back to take the country forward.
