Ousted BNP man to Khaleda: Quit politics

Dhaka, July 19 (bdnews24.com) — Ousted BNP leader Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman thinks it is time for party chairperson Khaleda Zia to quit politics as 'her thinking ability has weakened due to age'.

Addressing a press conference at his residence in the city on Tuesday, Akhtaruzzaman said her two sons Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Coco do not qualify for leading the party as 'they have rotten'.

Pointing his finger to the opposition leader, he said: "Your ability to think has decreased as you are now at an advanced age."

Akhtaruzzaman, who had led the party's move against detention of Khaleda during the army-installed two-year caretaker government, said: "It's time for you to quit politics because of your continuous failure to lead the party."

Asked whom he likes to see as BNP chief, he said: "Tarique and Coco have rotten. They can't do. Leaders will have to be selected from the grass-root level through council."

The former BNP MP from Kishoreganj, however, did not hold the Khaleda sons solely responsible for their being convicted in over a dozen of graft cases.

"Tarique and Coco are not unilaterally responsible for corruption. It was a vested quarter inside BNP that is responsible."

Akhtaruzzaman said: "The standing committee of the party has turned into a committee of sycophants who are of no use to the party."

He went on: "Leaders like [standing committee member] Moudud Ahmed will destroy BNP as he was behind the bars during a BNP term. He will take revenge for this."

Akhtaruzzaman feared that three former inspectors general of police, now in custody in the Aug 21 grenade attack case, would push Khaleda into danger by being approvers in the case.

He advised her to demand release of the former top cops.

He slammed her for her recent comment that she would throw away the constitution amended recently if the party comes to power once again.

The former BNP leader said he would form an 'associate organisation' named 'Trinomul BNP'. "Many BNP leaders are with me," he claimed.

Akhtaruzzaman was drummed out from BNP for three times in 1994, 1995 and 1998 due to his stance against the party on caretaker government system, general strikes and several other issues.

After Khaleda was detained during the military-backed caretaker government in 2007, he formed 'Khaleda Zia Freedom Council'.

Akhtaruzzaman called the press conference to express his views on the opposition party.

.
To be honest, I would consider myself to be more of a BNP supporter than an AL supporter (especially with the current AL leadership). But I agree that Khaleda needs to quit. BNP will go nowhere with this incompetent woman.. and her two sons. Not only that, but the rest of BNP also needs to straighten up and reduce it's corruption massively.

. .
Can't imagine BNP without the ZIA FAMILY
BNP gets a lot of votes riding on the popularity of Brand Zia & Begum Khaleda Zia.
I think BNP will win the next election, as AL has failed people's expectations
Begum Zia can be president of BD and have Moudud Ahmed or Mirza Fakrul Alamgir as shadow Pm
Then Tarek will be granted a presidential pardon and will return home
Tarek will administer BNP and consolidate his position till next election & then contend

.
All the leading politicians to include the rather compromised Begums should quit before they destroy BD.

@ Thanks your comments about the politics of Bangladesh. I tell you the politics of Bangladesh is very complex and complicated. You just cannot make a straight equation. There are many visible and un-visible factors. Some of the factors are :

1. India's interest.
2. Pakistan's interest.
3. Anti-India factor.
4. Religious factor.
5. Effect of Liberation War of 1971 (Both side).
6. Impact of Blood on politics.
7. Impact of Global Terrorism.
8. Interest of the Islamic Countries.
9. Interest of China.
10. Interest of the Western World.

@ Now, after 40 years and after lot of revolutions and counter revolutions(military coups) the whole nation is now divided into two groups, one is AL and another is BNP though the anti-AL sentiment is more. But tactfully AL has always managed and manipulated the election results including the 1971 general election. Take for an example the election of 1996, in the true sense the election was not totally free and fair. It was manipulated by the members of "Jonotar Manchu". The election of 2008 was not at all free and fair, it was totally manipulated by the Army itself in order to legalised their misdeeds.

@ Most of the people of our country have the tendency to criticise both the political parties but the question is then who will come to power ? These are all "utupion ideas". As per my assessment these two political parties will remain in Bangladesh in the forseeable future. You cannot outsted the Zia family as Zia family had a greater role during the liberation war. Once this family is ousted from BNP then AL will have an greater hand on politics.

@ To comment on the activities of Major Akhtaruzamman, he jumps too much, he is a mad character, he is very ambious and what not ????

@ These two political parties(AL & BNP) are just like a railway line which will run pararell but would never join together. And this would continue upto indefinite period ......

it is not possible to remove khaleda Zia and tarek rahman from power.. Any attemp of this will further destabilize the country.... If one Akhtaruzzaman wants khaleda to resign there is 99 other leaders who want her to stay...... People like Mannan Vuiyan tried this and in the process dug their own graves

They are that don-ish?

They cannot be replaced?

Then, lie down and enjoy it!

Personally, I think Bangladesh deserves better.

Heh heh:D Agriculture minister. Any way back to topic: I hav to agree with Mr Akhtaruzzaman that leaders should be selected from the grass-root level through council. These leaders, will have very good knowledge about the ground situation in bangladesh and can really help the country to develop unlike the two begums and their henchman.

A country survives and develops on right decisions not polpular ones. If BNP can find better candidates, i would like to see zia step down and make room for the new blood to take our country to new heights. Furthermore, even though BNP was founded by zia's family, it belongs to all of bangladesh. I see nothing wrong in making a person outside zia's family tree the leader of our country, provided that he is good.
