My whole family were hardcore Kemalists back then, but also not Anti-Islamic... but Anti-Arabic, and yes - although they lived next to Kurds in their hometowns (villages) ... they were a bit... Anti-Everything ... A lot of my uncles, former military cmnd joined the IYI party after retirement... I don't know much about the IYI party to be honest...

Turkish leadership made a mistake by promoting Islamism instead of Kemalist Turkish nationalism.

Seriously, the reason why Turkish youth are resorting to liberalism is because Islamism is pushing them there. They don't want to be part of something which they don't believe. Militarist Kemalism is the only thing which can stop this. Why? Because, it's rational, pro-science, and unique to our country, and provides the perfect alternative to the bland liberalism which is sweeping across the world.

That's why the west fears it so much.
