India to hand over Soviet-built Kilo-class submarine to Myanmar Navy, says source

6 APR

India has prepared the INS Sindhuvir, a Soviet-built Project 877 (Kilo-class) submarine for handover to the Myanmar Navy, a military-diplomatic source told TASS.

"The submarine’s repair was finalized this February in India. It is only a matter of time and crew training before it will be handed over to the Myanmar Navy," the source said.

According to the source, the terms of the handover of the Myanmar’s first ever submarine is unclear - Naypyidaw may either buy or lease the ship.

Russia’s arms exporter company, Rosoboronexport, did not comment on the deal.

The Sindhuvir joined the Indian Navy in 1988. Recently, it underwent medium repairs in Russia’s Severodvinsk. After the Sindhuvir’s handover, India will have eight more Kilo-class submarines.

Earlier, a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS that Russia proposed New Delhi to repair three Indian Kilo-class submarines and to buy three more submarines of the same class from the Russian Navy, after all required repairs.

Although these subs are very old but still they can be used to gain training and operational knowledge.

Who cares about this 1980s-era Kilo class that is less advanced than the 2 modernised Mings that BN has!

If the savages did not get this from India, they would have went elsewhere.

Meanwhile BN has ordered two of the below babies to take care of any sub threat from the savage's Navy:

India leases submarines from Russia so could be transfer of lease once expired. Did a google search they leased a Akula for $3bn for 10yrs last year.

I think in case of Nuclear sub, Russia only offer leasing option for some strategic reason or quality and maintenance related issue. Because Indian has very bad record of maintenance.
India signs $3 billion contract with Russia for lease of a nuclear submarine

Didn't they float one indigenous nuclear sub on trial basis? And start another one.

Sanghis were jumping up and down about it, then went quiet all of a sudden.

We already have 1 domestic built nuclear sub INS Arihant in operation which carries 12 Sagarika nuclear tipped ballistic missiles with a range of 1800 km
The second Nuclear sub INS Arighat is undergoing sea trials and it will carry the 4000 km range K4 nuclear missiles

Btw Ming class is far inferior to the kilo class
If they were any good, the Chinese would not have purchased the kilo class

My god. These people gets robbed eh

Not better than the kilo y’all are handing to Burma

Why be modest and say 4000 km range? Say 16,000 KM range and name the sub 'Jay Jay Shri Shri Shri(!) ARI-Ram Adhipatee'.

Don't hold back.

Arihant and any other ARI-(this-or-that) are all a copy of the Russian Charlie class (K-43, INS Chakra in Indian service) leased to Indian Navy between 1988-1992.

Even after four years of measuring and copying this obsolete Russian sub (INS Chakra) docked in Indian waters and plenty of Russian consultant help - IN could not prevent Arihant from damage due to water incursion, the most basic naval sub operation precaution. Was the idiot who did this fired from IN? Probably promoted - I'm guessing.

F*cked-up Navy is - is what a F*cked up Navy does. It's an IN tradition.

Result - out of commission for the better part of a year. Yeah - some nuclear triad....

Just the latest in a long line of IN f*ck-ups (explosions, sonar dome damage, fires) and even longer line of Indian Military and space failures (lunar mission).

IN is the laughing stock of the world's navies....no other navy in the region is worried about IN anymore, other than Indians.

My god. These people gets robbed eh

The Russians (Putin) knows how to squeeze milk from rocks. Kudos to this guy.

Especially knowing how kanjoos Indian Sanghis actually are.

When u rant without knowledge
It only makes u look foolish
Arihant is based on a Russian design
But it's not Charlie
Its Akula I and Akula II

For a Bangladeshi ur egos is writing cheques ur army simply can't cash
Every navy has accidents US, Russia and China have all lost nuclear subs due accidents, UK and France both have done damage to their nuclear subs due to accidents
If u have Google then use it
Not rant without full knowledge

BYW the Z9 anti submarine warfare helicopters that u are getting excited about is infact based on a 1980s French design called Daufin
And it won't last a min against Barack 1 Sam's which Myanmar will get from India

And it won't last a min against Barack 1 Sam's which Myanmar will get from India

Again please dont take the impoverished drama princess nutjob too seriously, he/she see's Indians/India everywhere:

Its not surprising given her clear personal situation/predicament (long hours of low paid work under Indian boss, but seeing all the newer indians being promoted quickly and crying thats all "fixed" rather than introspecting own quality)...and the sore need for escapism here because of it (flick through whole thread to get the idea):

Reality is just harsh to her, once you factor that in, you realise its best to let lost cause losers just be....they have a sad world that openly mocks them with reality check each day to try survive in.

since you bring in indian made sam (or maybe israeli) . let me inform you the only recent success they hv is of shooting down their own helicopter . while a formation of 24 planes intrudes and nearly bombed the indian brigade hq and depo :) .

Myanmar is strategic ally of india ,our navies regularly do co ordinated naval patrols, taking relationship to the next level India has given Myanmar the Kilo class Submarine after it was refitted by HSL,it will not stop on this deal, a deal on frigates might as well be on too
