Islamabad for being 'closer to nature' and with all the perks of a modern city including a good public transport, hospitals and institutions, unlike many cities with gardens...Islamabad gives feel of city within a garden.

The only thing missing is a night life...and that is one reason it is very calm and peaceful.

Islamabad no doubt is beautiful but I have always wondered what are the employment opportunities in Islamabad? I would assume that majority of the citizens engaged in government jobs?

Yes to quite an extent...if you look at the big government office complexes there...other than that there are burgeoning private sector enterprises as well, housed in new offices and one reason you tend to witness traffic jams in Islamabad as well...this was unheard of few years ago.


Also since property prices including rents are very high in Islamabad, many middle class/working class people live in Rawalpindi a sister city and travel to Isb(about 20-25 kms) and work there and leave in the evenings.

Gurugram makes you feel like you are living in a well globalized city almost every single MNC has offices there.
The infrastructure is rapidly growing because of continuous pouring of money from private investments, Govt. has also started to put some work.
Not sure how other cities compare but definitely if some one wants to grow his/her career and same time wants to have a feel of night life its the best city to live in specially for a North Indian who wants to be near his/her home states.

Once Colombo gets a proper public transport system (which is a HUGE drawback) and slightly more wide-spread nightlife along with a more up to date airport terminal, it will be pretty sweet.

in colombo's advantage, it's also next to sea and there's a lot of places where they can build facilities enough for vibrant nightlife but sadly on one hand we have incompetent politicians and on the other hand conservative retards who are against any kind of fun.

public transportation in sri lanka is a massive mess. it's privatised in a very unorganised way. nowadays anyone with money can buy a bus and put it on road. the result is lack of centralisation and every bus tries to maximise profits by violating rules. the quality never improves because of price controls. now the city is suffocating from heavy traffic which also polutes the air in central colombo. i for the love of my life never want to live in the middle of that city.

For me, it is one that has
1. efficient public transportation options
2. A decent standard of living
3. entertainment and leisure options for its denizens
4. Ensures the safety of its people at all times
5. provides varied opportunities for employment
6. Places of interest for tourists along with the associated infra

7. Underground power and sewage lines
8. Connectivity to the rest of the world
9. Cosmopolitan and business friendly

... for me, with all its ills, it’s still got to be my home city, Bombay.

I'd say the same for my city Chennai, except for the cosmopolitan bit ....

Gurgaon, bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Noida in India. The quality of people is rapidly improving, with better jobs and infra. Cosmopolitan feel is an added extra ( but I feel we need to have even more diversity ). Indian cities need better planning and polish. Those will come with added investments. Right now, we lack polish..

Colombo is nice and apparently Islamabad appears to have a closer-to -nature feel.

I live in South Bombay and it is really on par with most first world cities in terms of entertainment, cosmopolitanism, facilities, gardens, educational institutions, gymkhanas, night clubs, the business districts of Nariman Point and BKC - the whole nine yards. But once I out of the island city and into the suburbs, it is a complete disaster.

Sometimes, I just prefer to drive down to Pune for a change of pace. Within India, I found Chandigarh very clean and well organized. Gurgaon has some nice buildings but it seems. I've only heard good things about Islamabad from Pakistani friends - from pictures, it looks very well maintained. I have mixed feelings about Delhi - it has overall better infrastructure than Bombay but you would never see a sign "No guns allowed in pub" in Bombay.
