Operation Rah-e-Rast (Swat)

I think these slogans are fine, they should write some other funny and witty ones as well, some catch phrase from a bus or rikshaw might be considered going too far but imagine reading "deakh magar pyaar say" on a soldier's jacket or vest etc lol

It would be considered a breach of discipline on our case. The US military doesnt mind doing this BTW.

Army to stay in Swat till restoration of peace: COAS

Friday, 04 Sep, 2009 | 08:49 PM PST |

SWAT: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani said that the army will stay in Swat till the restoration of peace. The COAS made it clear that without the support of the masses, the backbone of the militants could not be broken.

Kiyani expressed these views on his visit to Malakand and Kalaam while addressing Army Jawans, officers and tribal leaders of the area on Friday.

The COAS paid tribute to the sacrifices of Jawans and officials of the Pakistan Army. He was of the view that the army is determined to sacrifice for the sake of the country and thus will defend the nation tooth and nail.

On the occasion, Army Chief also inaugurated an Army Public School in Malakand in the area of Subahan. -Online

Army: 5 militants killed in northwest Pakistan

(AP) – 2 hours ago

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Pakistan says paramilitary troops have killed five suspected militants and arrested 24 in an ongoing operation in the northwestern Khyber tribal region.

The paramilitary Frontier Corps announced the deaths in a statement Friday.

The Khyber region is home to one of the main routes used to ferry supplies to NATO and U.S. forces in neighboring Afghanistan. Taliban militants frequently attack supply trucks using the famed Khyber Pass.

Authorities say the latest operation has killed scores of militants. It began last week in response to a suicide bombing at a border checkpoint that killed 19 police.

‘Army to chase Taliban till end’

* COAS says terrorists’ network dismantled, peace restored to Swat
* Opens rehabilitation centre for youth brainwashed by Taliban

By Ghulam Farooq

MINGORA/RAWALPINDI: Inaugurating a rehabilitation centre for young men taken and trained to become terrorists and suicide bombers by Taliban, Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Pervez Kayani said the military has broken the terrorists’ backs and Operation Rah-e-Rast would continue as long as the last terrorist was not eliminated.

The army chief, visiting Malakand on Friday, later told a gathering of local leaders and soldiers that the terrorist network had been dismantled and peace restored to the Swat valley. He also discussed issues of rehabilitating and resettling the internally displaced population of the area.

“The army will chase these militants till the very end.” He also hoped that the people of these areas would support the armed forces in their mission. Local elders assured Kayani of their complete support to the army.

According to an ISPR statement, Gen Kayani visited the newly-built community police-training centre in Kalam, where he also met with recruits.

Rehabilitation centre: According to military officials, the ‘Sabawoon’ (morning light) Rehabilitation Centre will look after the young men brainwashed and indoctrinated by Taliban for suicide attacks on security forces and other targets in Swat. Many such youths were arrested by troops or found in camps raided by security forces during search and clearance operations in the valley.

Based in Malakand, the would-be Taliban will be nursed back to a “proper state of mental health”. “A team of specialist doctors, both from the Army and civil, is dedicated for this purpose. 32 children are presently undergoing the rehabilitation process,” the ISPR release said.

Successful Swat operation a sign of progress: Mullen

WASHINGTON: The United States is fostering a “growing, sustained and trusted” partnership with Pakistan, as both work to dismantle Al Qaeda safe havens in FATA, a top US military official said on Thursday. “And one of the ways I measure progress is if I look at Pakistan over the last 12 months, the success of their military in terms of its operations in Swat and the movement in that direction to address extremists in their own country,” US Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen stated at a Pentagon news conference, appearing jointly with Defence Secretary Robert Gates.

LESSONS OF SWAT

In response to a question regarding the lessons of Swat operation, Chief of Army Staff stated that Swat carries three lessons at National level.

First, When the Nation is united, nothing is impossible to achieve.

Second, People of Pakistan have enormous capacity and capability. They have always risen to the occasion. 80% of displaced persons were looked after by the people of NWFP. It was due to our religious beliefs and cultural / social values; we should be proud of such rich values.

Third, The armed forces are prepared and capable to defence Pakistan. You can see it in the eyes of every Soldier / Airmen.
