Operation Mosul- Updates & Discussions

That is why i gave 4 number, because not all attacks are successful. For example in one attack there would be tens of KIA, in other attack there would be no KIA. Average could be 4 or more.

Tens of KIA is very uncommon for attacks on troops, it's common with attacks on civillians. It's hard to give an accurate estimate at this point as some factors of the Mosul battle differ from battles in other towns. But VBIED's remain their strongest tool. The Peshmerga doesn't know the accurate number of IA casualties as they're not inside the city.

Currently the assault is only from one axis (the east). If the ISF had more armor they might have been able to storm the city en masse with airpower 'shock and awe' tactics to overwhelm IS, but for that the coalition would have to agree to providing such firepower and the ISF would need a lot more heavy equipment as well improved logistics. Civillians being used as human shields is another obstacle for this tactic.

^^ this above was considered by generals.

Iraqi commanders examined strategy shift to avert Mosul war of attrition

The main obstacle remain the civillians being used as human shields by IS, they're also cutting off water supplies to neighborhoods that are liberated as to force the civillians to go with IS and be used as human shields. This prevents the proper use of airstrikes and any other type of heavy firepower forcing them to do it with the infantry block by block.

ISF stated the claim of 2000 ISF killed last month is rubbish.

Not only that it's unrealistic, combat casualties a month do not reach 1000+. Either way they're fighting a hard battle, RIP to the fallen.

So now the UN admits their casualty report is from 'unverified sources' or whatever, basically Al Jazeera Arabic the mouthpiece of the terror organisation qatar.

The sooner we get rid of the terrorists, the better off the world community at large will be. Keep the pressure on and the terrorists will be defeated .

Any estimates on IS losses?

The US and its allies have killed between 800 and 900 ISIS fighters in the operation to retake Mosul, US Army Gen. Joseph Votel said Thursday.

US military officials estimate that there are 3,000 to 5,000 ISIS fighters defending the last major stronghold of the terror group in Iraq, and an additional 1,500 to 2,000 ISIS soldiers in a zone outside the city.

Iraqi forces say 1,000 Islamic State fighters killed in Mosul

But official sources also state IS so far has used 600 VBIED's in Mosul, that would mean its 600 drivers were killed but I don't know if they count that as an 'Islamic state fighter killed'. The one thing that is certain is that progress is slow due to civillians being used as human shields and the assault being from only one axis so far.

Good job. Hopefully the Iraqi government will establish full control over its sovereign territory. The Turkish Republic has nothing to benefit from Mosul being in IS hands, I hope we will have good bilateral relations once Iraq beats these animals. Best of luck to you.

The regional govs should cooperate to do what is good for the people there, it doesn't affect me despite the recent discussions, the locals deserve a better life. The foreign policies of certain leaders have been costly to several armies including TAF and that is an ongoing war which will take many more life's. Iraq's gov & parliament has for years tied the hands of the ISF and sabotaged them fully which eventually made them collapse.

Maybe the amount of civilian control over militaries is proving bad as the militaries are bleeding for the games of civilian leaders.
