Yet still,It's a poor province.even poorer than some southeast province.

None of the two bases can produce indenpendently almost all weapons ,form Chip to SHip, from bulliet to missle, form nuke to aircrarft.
I think the major problem of NE China is neither location nor connectivity, but primarily outdated industrial structural.

.
North East China has a lot of potential and in the long run, depopulation is a good thing for North East China.

The demise of NE China has historical reasons. First, during the Japanese Manchuria time NE China was the 2nd MOST prosperous state in Asia after Japan.

That has breed independence sentiment, which Gao Gang has tried to dabble with, but got shit from central CPC.

The China government after that embark with a plan economy transferring the wealth and resources from NE China to the rest of China.

NE China suffered greatly from the equalization. But equalization also quell the superiority of NE China and their independence sentiment.

Reviving NE China is not difficult given she have a lot of fertile land and resources. The fewer people the better, and wealth could be shared with fewer people. Everything depends on central government policy.
fertile lands and resources?u mean cutting trees?i tell u,if u dare to touch a single tree in Great Khingan,I will kill you myself!we should draw blueprint of development with environmental concerns in our mind now,u think Chinese are still resource combusting barbarians like when it was ruled by mao half a century ago?

Someone don't know how greatly geographic advantage boost economy, you can check yourself.

A country can only have 2-4 center. In USA, it is the Washington DC-NY corridor on the East and SF-San Diego on the West.

Then there is a 2nd tier like Houston, Denver, North Carolina...etc

The rest of the sparsely populated.

It seems to me that Chinese government is interested in aggregating population into 3 mega cities, namely the Pearl River Delta (Guangdong SZ), the Yangtze River Delta (Shanghai environ) and the Beijing/Hebei region. The next tier is Wuhan, Chongqing/Chengdu.

That would mean a depopulation for the rest of the provinces given the low birthrate, and that is a good thing. You cannot have the cake and eat it.

OK, Hebei now is totally drained and still being leeched by Beijing and Tianjin.

Very profound insights,
Her location sometimes is also a hindrance, too close to Beijing.
I think some headquarters of SOEs in Beijing should be relocated to other places including NE China. Tourism is promising of course, the scenery of NE China is top-notch.

Thanks for the advises.
But Dongbei(Northeast China) is not connected to East Asian Supply China?
It takes only 4 hours from Beijing to Shenyang by bullet train.

NE's economy don't have serious problem. Yes, its growth is not as quick as other regions, because NE is heavy industry dominated economy. I have two observation of its low developing rate: 1. Shipbuilding industry shrink these years. NE has 4 huge shipbuilding manufacturer, but they lack commercial ship order recently. 2. Oil, steel and power industry lack competitiveness.
NE has three good opportunities to recover.
1. Bullet train fabrication base. They have built up new bullet train factories there.
2. Speed up warships building, especially nuclear subs, cruiser and aircraft carrier.
3. Commercial airplane fabrication base. In decades, all China airline companies will need to purchase thousands of airplanes. When the C919 take certification, start to fulfill order, it is a super huge business in NE.

.
China unlike other places are more centrally plan. Once the CPC started to do something to Heibei, you see miracle in a second.

京津冀协同发展,说实话,不太敢苟同,破除行政体制障碍的利好是新一轮的资本加速聚集北京。所谓振兴东北,西部大开发喊了多少年,结果有目共睹。

don't think it'll be possible or desirable to have too many ppl squeezed into Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. the official plan is to develop more tier 2/3/4 cities and county seat rather than make megacities even bigger.

I just visited Shanghai, there is absolutely no more room for growth. it's not like Wuhan, Chongqing or Dalian which have alot of room, they are literally connected to Suzhou and almost connected to Hangzhou at this point.

semiconductor is also a possible development. Dalian has a major Intel fab and that should be used as a springboard for suppliers and consumer.

以前四环算是郊区,现在六环以外已经发展起来了。北京扩展不可避免。

许多产业如医院等,不必在三环内,可以往河北迁。天津的工厂也一样。
