On transit, Dhaka set to go by GATT

Yeah I have been hearing the same sh!t for last couple of years, the fact is BD-China trade deficit is increasing day by day and China use BD to dump their cheap goods.

Its not China's fault. Is it? They gave unilateral trade concession to more than 5000 BD products without even asking which covers 85% of our export. They again this year unilaterally declared for up to 97% BD products to get trade concession soon. Besides they never imposed non tariff and para tariff barrier. They never imposed anti dumping duty on any BD products. They never made any BD products to go through some bullcrap testing procedure. They even dont have any hidden state level taxes. Now its to BD industries how they going for Chinese market. Last year we had 79% increase of export to China, this year its going over 30% sor far after the trade concession.

We will never have a trade surplus with China as we import a lot of products for re export from them. Still we are looking for a big market there for our goods. Same goes for India.

You are so true. Bangladeshi are so mad in their India hatred venture, that they could put blind eyes to dumping of Chinese goods in BD market.

Manmohan Singh should erase out BD from Look East policy and try better bet with friendly Myanmar. For BD folks, emotions are much higher than economic prosperity.

Your India hatred surpasses everything and you will put blind eyes over china is doing. Your trade with China also is much larger and soon it will surpass India because every India haters in Bangladesh putting blind eyes to it.

We are taking on whole cost of Akhura-Agartala rail link, still opportunistic people making noise in your country. Plus even if you are not taking transit fee even without that you guys will make lots money in services because charging service is never free. GATT or WTO treaty is not mandatory but it depends upto BD business mind how to do best negotiations economically instead of making cheap political issue of puppet state or 29th state of India.

When you avail services in Bangladesh that means we are loosing money as well. How? Just listen to Dr. Devapria Banerjee. All our services are subsidised by govt. We build roads, which are subsidised, we import fuel subsidised, we build hospital subsidised, we raise police subsidised, we provide drinking water subsidised and the list goes on. Once you avail or buy any service in BD that means you are getting subsidised service and the subsidy comes from my own pocket. How does that sound?

We are not taking your service for free, why not make a survey on how much these existing infras are going to be used by Indians and charge likewise instead of running like headless chickens and rasing all those little storms in tea cups?

For all transit routes same kind of feasibility study is being taken to determine transit fee, ie. Suez Canal.

SCNRT is a measure of the vessel’s cargo carrying capacity, and as a
benchmark, is roughly equal to half the ship’s deadweight tonnage. A SCNRT
certificate is required for transit and is issued by recognized maritime class
registry societies such as the American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas and
Det Norske Veritas. As noted in the chart, the larger the vessel, the lower the
tonnage fee becomes on the margin. For example, a smaller 2,200 TEU ship
with approximately 29,000 SCNRT would be paying an average per ton fee of
$US 5.64 per SCNRT. A post-Panamax 8,000 TEU vessel with over 83,000
SCNRT faces an average rate of $US 4.12 per SCNRT.

Bangladeshi also comes to India for medical services and cheap state run train services, I have met lot of Bangladeshis in India in Kolkata-Chennai-Bangalore trains to avail cheaper medical facilities in India.

By the way how you guys provide those cheaper service to us, you will definitely have a different set of service charges for transit routes.

What I gather from the article, he is talking about charging a lumpsum money which will be more profitable than charging each vessel. Also govt will be able to showcase the money.

Medical services are offered to those patient by your business. You guys have your own arrangement and seems like you are making money.

When we provide transit that means other free services will go along with these. For instance your truck got into an accident. What will be next set of services you are hoping for free?? Police, ambulance, govt hospital, emergency crew, blood, saline etc. No privated medical will admit you no matter how much money you are willing to pay. They will just refer you to govt emergency services.

Pity your Government. They are trying to be progressive and move forward in terms of trade, economy. They are doing everything by the rules and you still call them Indian dalals. All this because you don't want a transit route through the country to the only neighbor you got. By the way, you are trying to hide your irrational stance by bringing up ridiculous 'Value of the transit is much more than what Indians may give(agree to give)'. Such a pathetic situation for your government.
