On the brink of Third World War

However this is an international forum and we should use the international norm of English. I never claimed that you use the word 'chini' and you just happened to bump in to the conversation. So there are no issues between you and me. But many members here know the word is as offensive to us as the American form "chink", and yet they used it as flame bait against our young members here.

Part of the problem for both sides here is that we don't know how to debate civilly and using certain personal derogatory words can only make the situations worst.

But anyway, it just so we can understand each other. No harm done.

I agree with you. I have used that term in retaliation when chinese dragon and his friends kept using bharti and asan (or something like that) for us. As with any slang, its not the term itself but how its used.

I'll try to avoid it, but don't hold me to it :)

Seriously, I would like to read your comments on the original article however and whether China is planning to start a war anytime soon. As a person who deals with Chinese a lot and visits China, my opinion is 'hell no'! Whats yours?

Bro, "chinky" is an offensive term in India as well - often and unfortunately (and ignorantly) loosely used by many of us for Indians from the NE or anyone with pronounced intercanthal folds generically as well. No arguments there.

What Fateh is trying to explain to you is that "Chin" (pronounced as "Cheen") and "Chini" (pronounced as "Cheeni") is official, acceptable, and politically correct Hindi for China and Chinese respectively.

I agree as a foreign tongue you may not appreciate the difference, as the spellings in English look the same, but that's the way it is.

If the conversation is in English, then there is no cause to interject hindi words to refer to Chinese people.

By that logic, since 'bharti' is a legitimate word for Indians in hindi/urdu, then Indians should not complain if someone uses that term.

You've become a Think Tank?

Wow, how time flies .... :)

IMO, the political leaders in both have no intention what so ever to start a war against each other. To them economic developments are the most important agenda now and then come the international politics.

However, because of the past war, there exist a mistrust on both sides especially the Indian side. It is understandable though. And the military buildups on both side that followed only intensify that feeling. The leads will have to work out some kind of precautions to stop any further developments. And I think they will, perhaps, with some kind of direct hotline.

As for the future, I think the process has already began during the BRICS Summit, if they allow more each others' companies for cross border investments and people exchanges the chance of war will diminished. Hey you are going to bomb the other side when many of you citizens are there as well.

But hasnt this forum ruled that word Bharti is allowed to be used when referring to Indians giving some lame reason about how this is the right term in Urdu and how most Pakistani members have Urdu as their first language. Shouldnt same reasoning apply here as well? I mean to the word Cheeni. Chinky any way is an established racial slur that shouldn't be allowed

I wasn't aware of that ruling. The point is that if the other side finds it offensive, then don't use it, regardless of rules.

According to an Indian official, Subramaniam Swamy, a former Janata Party member, Israel in 1982 asked him to sound out other Indian leaders to see if India would grant Israeli warplanes landing and refueling rights were they to undertake an Osirak-type raid against the Kahuta nuclear reactor in Pakistan. (Note 53) India refused, probably for a combination of reasons.
Your problem is that you dont read well your own sources. Why would Israel tell the opposition socialist party member about its secret super duper secret plans?

If WW3 starts in Muslim countries it would start in Syria and not in Pakistan or Iran. I doubt Israel or for that sake USA will ever risk to attack Iran after the disaster in Iraq. In short the Western alliance will move out of Middle East and the ME countries will in time correct themselves. Of course that depends on the success of Egypt and other North African countries to reach true democracy.

The line of confrontation will shift to East Asia soon again. With a focus on North Korea and China's rise.

Japan will intercept N Korean rocket if necessary

Japan says it will shoot down a North Korean rocket if necessary, as new satellite images appeared to show preparations for the launch next month.

I read my sources before posting them, secondly there is more than one report on the joint indo-israeli strike on Pakistan's plants, confirming presence of F-16's in india (indian air force doesn't operate American fighter aircraft).
