On Duty Security Had No Weapons:

Possibly they were not expecting an attack of this magnitude on the naval air base that too in Karachi.

Actually they had the report of the attack from a disgruntled naval spec forces oper a few months back----he had warned of attack during interrogation---secondly---the navy buses carrying navay employees got attacked a few days ago----the millitary head quarters got attacked last year----FC traing facility got attacked last month-----.

What more does a base commander need to under stand security.

Pakistan millitary should already have created a seperate FORCE for base and millitary installation security by now-----with their own command and control structure----.

Technically the security detail head would have the power and authority to adjust to the changing requirement and not the base commander.

Bottom line:

Navy walon nay thund muth rakhi hoi thi..

Barely a year ago i strolled into PAF faisal without a care.. "Khala ji ka ghar"..\

The NSSG's were also helpless against the attackers.. who were extremely well trained, in the words of the top boss after the CnC in KArachi..
These guys were picking out our guys from long ranges as if on duck shoot.
It wasnt until Zarrar company arrived from tarbela with their NVG's, cornershots and other gadgets that the situation was settled.

The top boss of of navy is a bafoon, but then I am thinking all of them Commanders are bunch of idiots. What the heck is going on here. Its a shame if SSGN is incapable of taking out 6 terrorists no matter how well trained they are. You were suppose to be the best of best but it seemed they are useless when facing a well trained enemy.
I completely agree with TamiKhan that both SSGN and SSGW should take part in current war against terrorism and work under a joint command, but Pakistan lacks the resources to form a command similar to JSOC. Non the less I am starting to have serious doubts about the capabilities of Armed Forces leaders. Is there no one in 1.2 million plus armed forces to actually be capable of running an effective and lethal force. All of them are busy in playing golf.

Oh dont you worry about that Pakistan Army have already created DHA phase 9 and 10 along the superhigh way Karachi, land that was originally granted for Military Facilities. Yes Army at its best!

Can it be translated to English please or if there is an online English version available? It sounds highly unreliable that a Naval base (of the very few that your country has) were guarded by unarmed soldiers...

Translation of main points from the post above:

- Sources suggest that a few guards had small firearms.
- More than 20 attackers.
- Navy's SSGs reached the base in a helicopter from the dockyard.
- Marine's barracks are approximately 3 km from the base.
- Stationed staff usually leaves at 2pm in the afternoon.
- The operator only works during the day.
- No CC Camera could capture the event.
- Sources said that at the time of the attack, only the Naval Police officials were stationed who are not part of the military.
- They don't have the capability to deal with such attacks.
- Most of PBS1 Grade officers of the Navy only had sticks/batons at the time.
- At the time of attack, Lt. Yasir had a pistol/hand-gun.
- The other gun was with the guard at the gate.
- There were three guards but the other two only had whistles.
- Sources also claim that only 4 attackers were active.
- Two of them first captured the control tower and fired the rockets from there.
- More than 20 attackers entered the base but remained hidden in the bushes.
- The commandos wanted to capture the assailants alive.
- But the situation compelled the 20 to flee.
- The route from Ghousia Colony was used again.

Yup, things seem pretty bad. But we'll have to wait for the inquiry to complete to get the whole picture. If it is released.
