Two jawans and a policeman were killed and five injured in a terror attack on an Army convoy on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. Terrorists fired on at least five Army vehicles and a police vehicle in Khawaja Bagh area, 55 km from Srinagar, in the wee hours on Wednesday before managing to escape. Hizb-ul Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack.

HM's operational spokesperson Burhanuddin told a local news agency, "at least five Army men were killed in the attack carried out by a special squad of the outfit in the Baramulla district during the dead of the night." He added the deputy commander of Hizb-ul Mujahideen, Saifullah Khalid, had directed the squad to "intensify the attacks on security establishments". "While lauding the role of militants, Saifullah Khalid decided to reward the group of militants responsible for the daring attack," he said.

The state government faced a political attack from former CM Omar Abdullah who said Pakistan was not the architect of the current unrest in the Valley. Addressing a news conference after chairing a meeting of opposition parties in Srinagar, he urged the Centre to initiate a dialogue with all stakeholders in the state and with Pakistan to end the violence in the state.

"Pakistan may be fishing in troubled waters as has been their practice in past, but they are not the architect of this problem. They are not the ones keeping it alive. It is our inability to recognise this anger that is keeping it alive," said Abdullah. The meeting was attended by National Conference, Congress and CPM among others. "It is mind boggling that a far lesser agitation in Gujarat had a no less a person than PM addressing them in Gujarati from New Delhi. Because he owned the people and he owned the place.

Why is it that we don't get owned? Why it that our anger and sentiment are not recognised?" Abdullah said it was not good enough to say Kashmir is integral part of India, if the Centre wanted to address the problem.

Instead of a being a Police matter as it should be, it becomes a paramilitary matter. So the question is, what is the 700,000 army doing? Joining in?

Look, you have good and bad people EVERY where, but there has to be enough trust and INCLUSION and make people feel part of the country and not marginalized then you won't have riots. Every HUMAN seeks a good life for themselves and children, create jobs and opportunities and remove the Zulm, trust me, IOK will be peaceful and NO ONE will Pakistan flag. I think Mr Abdullah has the right to be upset, giving the credit to Pakistan for the unrest is unfair discounting of Mr Abdullah's efforts. He deserves due credit.

I know you meant for both sides and I was talking from point of someone ACTUALLY acknowledging there are bad apples.

As a Kashmiri we just want them to be free of zulm. Who they want to be is up to them to decide. I can tell you in Azad Kashmir people will NOT break away from Pakistan. You must have seen my posts on the ginerals in Pindi and sayasdans in Islamabad, I'm not a fan of them and very critical and my 16 negatives speak for themselves that I'm not very liked on here because I speak the truth.

You can be the first to accuse me of lying and that is your prerogative as you don't know me and I'm a Pakistani of A.K. But if you can afford me the benefit of the doubt, bhai, then I'll tell you without ANY doubt people will NOT break away from Pakistan to form a United Kashmir with IOK.

Actually you might be right and in the constitution of Pakistan, it is stated that Azad Kashmir is not the part of state and that's why they have their own parliament and president. But the problem is people in IOK waving Pakistani flag. With 700K men in IOK, why can't they stop the unrest if they claim the people in riots are less in numbers. You got to admit that there is a problem at state level which you gov is not accepting.

In some way he is right , this protest if spontaneous , the hurriat does not control it , its the peoples anger which has spilled on to the streets at the killing of that terriorist.
The govt has to reach out to everyone and solve this . The good news is that they have just started to do so . That said, there is no doubt in my mind that this problem will be solved.
Politically speaking Omar will sweep the next election . there is a lot of anger on the ground against the PDP and the BJP.
