JEDDAH: Several members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) launched a blistering attack on Iran at an extraordinary meeting here Thursday of its Council of Foreign Ministers, accusing it of fomenting sectarianism and supporting terrorist groups in the region.

A number of ministers blasted Iran for storming the Kingdom’s diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad and for interfering in the internal affairs of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen and Syria. The ministers also took Iran to task for supporting terrorism.

Foreign ministers and representatives of more than 45 of the pan-Islamic organization’s 56 members attended the closed-door meeting, which went on for four hours.

The extraordinary meeting was convened at the request of Saudi Arabia, with the heated deliberations indicating Iran’s near total isolation in the Arab and Muslim world.

In the final communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the ministers said the aggression against the Saudi missions constituted a flagrant violation of international law, in reference to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

“These aggressions contravene the OIC’s charter, which call for promoting trust and fostering friendly relations, mutual respect and cooperation among member states, and abstaining from interfering in the internal affairs of member states,” said the communiqué.

Without mentioning Nimr Al-Nimr, who was executed in Saudi Arabia recently, the OIC rejected and condemned Iran’s inflammatory statements on the enforcement of judicial decisions against perpetrators of terrorist crimes in the Kingdom.

“These statements are a blatant interference in the internal affairs of Saudi Arabia and a contravention of the UN Charter, the OIC Charter and of all international covenants which call for non-interference in the internal affairs of the member states,” said the OIC foreign ministers.

The OIC denounced Iran’s interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain, Yemen and Syria and its support for terrorism. It also condemned the sectarian and denominational agenda because of its “destructive ... repercussions for the security and stability of the member states.”

The OIC called on all member states and the international community to take serious and effective steps to prevent the recurrence of such aggressions on diplomatic and consular missions in Iran.

The ministers also strongly condemned the abduction of Qataris in Iraq, describing it as a heinous act of terror. They called on the Iraqi government to assume its international legal responsibilities to guarantee the safety and release of the abducted Qataris.

Speaking at the meeting, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said Iran seeks to spread sedition, unrest and chaos as well as incite sectarian strife in the region. “Iran is the main reason for instability and wars in our region,” he said.

“Iran is a member state which does not respect the charter of our organization and its principles. Iran proudly declares that it controls four Arab capitals and has 200,000 trained fighters in a number of countries in the region. This is clear evidence of Iran’s provocative policies toward its neighbors and the Arab region,” Al-Jubeir said.

“The Iranian attack was a part of ongoing attacks on the diplomatic missions in Iran for the last 35 years,” he said. “It is the responsibility of the host government to take measures, not to issue statements aimed more at deflecting blame than offering practical protection to diplomatic missions,” said Al-Jubeir.

Saudi Arabia severed all diplomatic and commercial ties with Iran after the attacks. Other Gulf countries took varying measures to downgrade ties with Iran, and had condemned the country’s actions.

OIC Secretary-General Iyad Madani said that the strained relations among some of the OIC’s member states were deepening the fractures in the Islamic body politic and promoting political and sectarian polarization.

Warning against exacerbating these tensions, he said the attacks against Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic missions had breached diplomatic norms. “This situation turns us away from effectively addressing the true challenges that threaten the future of our member states and their peoples,” he said.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi struck a conciliatory tone as he stepped into the meeting. “We do not want confrontation or escalation,” he said. “It is our wish that this meeting will help us reduce tensions.”

During the meeting, many ministers, including Al-Jubeir, dismissed Araqchi’s statement as empty talk. According to them, Iran remains responsible for all the unrest and conflict in the region.

The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s first deputy prime minister and foreign minister. Kuwait is the president of the current session of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers.

Among the attendees were foreign ministers from various member states, including Turkey’s Mevlut Cavusoglu, Qatar’s Khalid bin Mohammed Attiyah, Oman’s Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Indonesia's Retno Maraud and the UAE's Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

Other members present included Bahrain’s Sheikh Khalid Al-Khalifa, Pakistan’s Sartaj Aziz, Malaysia’s Anifah Aman, Morocco’s Mbarka Bouaida, Bangladesh’s Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Dunya Maumoon of Maldives.

Good initiative by Saudis...Iran's terrorism should be contained.

For a year Palestine has requested OIC meeting to address israel attack to Al Aqhsa mosque which has been neglected ....

For a year Palestine has requested OIC meeting to address israel attack to Al Aqhsa mosque which has been neglected ....

OIC will never take up an issue in which the rich gulf states are not interested. They are letting Israelis kill Palestinians, and on the other hand their actions has led to the murder of thousands in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan.

These rich arab ba****ds damn care about Muslims, all they care about is themselves.

Sometimes i feel really very sad on the helplessness of the Palestinians, no single Muslim country is there to help & support them.

Syria / Iran are not being targeted for being Shia, rather these are the two countries left who oppose Israel.

A group which consists terrorists calling another a terrorist. Ironic.
Honey, if you find all Muslims terrorists, it's your problem. But since your judgements are, apparently, clouded with hatred and anger, I would suggest that you take it as follows, we, Arabs, get to say who is who and which is which in the OIC. Understood?

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the recent Iran nuclear deal, which saw economic sanctions on the country lifted, and hoped that this development would contribute to regional peace, stability and a better future for the people in the region. - See more at: OIC welcomes Iran nuclear deal; calls for peace and stability in the region | Money | Malay Mail Online

3. I like how you think you are actually somebody as a Jordanian on an internet forum posting Saudi propaganda 24/7.

There are only 2 things you guys can decide:

1- Produce more or less oil.
2- Produce more or less terrorists, suicide bombers, destruction and chaos (something Arab world and GCC in particular are world famous for).

On both cases, you have chosen the 'higher' option.

Th fact that OIS is even more useless than UN can tell everyone that no matter how much meeting it holds and what statements it releases, they are as valuable as a toilet paper, as history has proved. The same is true with Arab league.

First of all don't call me Honey. If you have any misunderstanding, i am a guy.

And i have no problem of hatred, heck if you think i am Shia, sorry to disappoint you i am not. I am from Sunni side.

And i wonder when is OIC going to condemn the actions of Dictatorships of Qatar, Sauds Arabia, UAE and others for their actions of supporting terrorist elements in Syria and elsewhere.

I wonder if UAE or Sauds can commit troops for Yemen, why not for Palestinians ?

We muslims have been getting killed thanks to the Gulf states.

If you and others like you can't see it out of hatred for Shias, then God help you in opening your eyes.

I like how you think you are actually somebody as a Jordanian on an internet forum posting Saudi propaganda 24/7.
If I were Saudi, I would have said so. I'm Jordanian who have been living in Riyadh for 2.5 years. however, my attitude had been the same long before I moved to Saudi Arabia, although I believe it had been more radical. Nevertheless, my attitude toward Iranian regime is based on principles as a human being, Muslim, and Arab. I'll never forget what this sleazy regime have done in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen. Maybe you're stumped at the fact that I'm anti-Iran and Jordanian, but believe me, I'm soft regarding Iran compared to most Jordanians. I defend Saudi Arabia because it represents me as a Muslim and Arab, I consider it my home country, and it's people as mine.
There are only 2 things you guys can decide:

1- Produce more or less oil.
2- Produce more or less terrorists, suicide bombers, destruction and chaos (something Arab world and GCC in particular are world famous for).

Saudi Arabia is not the country that has been under sanctions because of terrorism, it's Iran. Iranian long list of terror acts speak for themselves in this regard.
Th fact that OIS is even more useless than UN can tell everyone that no matter how much meeting it holds and what statements it releases, they are as valuable as a toilet paper, as history has proved. The same is true with Arab league.
Everyone is considered useless for Iran, simply because everyone condemned you. There is something called political war, and this is it.

First of all don't call me Honey. If you have any misunderstanding, i am a guy.

And i have no problem of hatred, heck if you think i am Shia, sorry to disappoint you i am not. I am from Sunni side.
This is not about Shiite or Sunni, it's about right and wrong, and you are on the wrong side.
And i wonder when is OIC going to condemn the actions of Dictatorships of Qatar, Sauds Arabia, UAE and others for their actions of supporting terrorist elements in Syria and elsewhere.
The aforementioned regimes are legitimate regimes in their countries, they represent their people, they afford their citizens with the highest living standards worldwide that made your countrymen struggle to have work permits over there. So, as long as their people are content with them, you're in no place at all to describe them as dictatorships, you're no Saudi, Qatari, nor Emarati.

The one who created and nurtured terrorism in Syria, Iraq and Yemen is Iran. You claim that you're Sunni, yet you accuse GCC of supporting terrorism only because there is a Sunni terror group there. What about tens of Shiite terror groups who have been slaughtering Syrians for five years? Those are armed, financed and trained by Iran! This is a proven fact. While the other proven facts are that Saudi Arabia has been arming and supporting Syrians to defend themselves against the Iranian-supported killing machine, Saudi Arabia is a major victim of terrorism not Iran, Saudi Arabia is an effective partner in the international coalition against ISIL and terrorism.

Saudi-backed opposition in Syria is recognized regionally and internationally. You have never voiced sympathy for the traumatized Syrian people, and yet you dare to lash out at the countries that support them?

Saudi Arabia is commended for it's actions in Syria, Iraq and Yemen in the Arab League, the OIC and the UN for a reason. And Iran is condemned for it's actions in the same countries by the same organizations for a reason as well.

Therefore, you clearly missed a lot of knowledge regarding the events in the ME. Catch up!
I wonder if UAE or Sauds can commit troops for Yemen, why not for Palestinians ?
Such a messed up logic, so because we didn't act properly on the violations in Palestine, we should not ever act on other violations against us?
We muslims have been getting killed thanks to the Gulf states.

If you and others like you can't see it out of hatred for Shias, then God help you in opening your eyes.

First of all, search for your real enemies and stop blaming your incompetence on others. Second of all, I think my eyes have never been more wide-openned.

Iran apology meaningless unless it stops fanning terror in Gulf: Riyadh

RIYADH: Instead of apologizing for the attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions, Iran’s leaders must change their government’s policies, become good neighbors, stop supporting militant groups, desist from assassinating people and not harbor terrorists, said Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir in an interview published Friday.

Al-Jubeir said Iran has behaved in this manner for more than 35 years. “The message has been sent to Tehran clearly by the GCC countries, Arab League and now from the Islamic community that this is enough,” he said.

“The Muslim world will never accept such actions. If it continues to do so, then Muslim states would have no option but to take more measures against Iran,” Al-Jubeir was quoted as saying.

Al-Jubeir said the OIC foreign ministers’ meeting barring Lebanon unanimously condemned Iran’s actions on Thursday.
“The resolution was very clear, condemning what had happened at the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad. It held Iran responsible and condemned its support for terrorism. The position of these countries was clear and strong against Iran’s aggression ...”

Al-Jubeir elaborated: “If Iran wants to be a respectable state in Muslim society and the world in general, it must work to improve its image, not interfere in the affairs of the region and foment sectarian strife ...”

However, Al-Jubeir made it clear that Haj and Umrah would not be affected by the tension between the two countries. “Iranians are welcome in the Kingdom because it is the right of every Muslim. This is a religious issue and it has nothing to do with politics.”

He said the Kingdom was seeking advice from fellow Arab and Muslim countries on what steps it should now take after severing diplomatic ties with Iran.

I'm not religious person so...but I don't see what's 'Islamic' about this organization? The majority of Muslims don't have any regard for their religion anymore. Sunni's, Shia's etc...they all refuse to implement Islam. Only thing they care about is using religion as a tool to open pathways for influence and to intimidate population from ideological revolution which will mean an end to all theocratic/dictatorial/religious regimes in the Muslim world. According to Islam, this makes Muslim leaders hypocritical heretics(not joking).

Actually I would even go as far to say the only people following Islam are Al Qaeda/ISIS(I'm agnostic). Al Qaeda/ISIS sincerely believe in the religion therefore they're in an armed struggle to try to implement Islam, Islamic Law and an Islamic state in the region. So according to Islam, majority of Muslims are heretics/infidels since they don't actually believe in religion and don't implement it like ISIS/AQ want to. But they're too stupid to realize that.

I agree Palestinian issue won't be taken up. But, I don't agree with the reasons you gave for that my friend. First of all, I would like to say that this 'Muslim Umma' concept is not possible to achieve. Religion sadly isn't true, and we are fooling ourselves into believing all Muslims stand by each other. Most Muslims are just Muslims by name today. So really you should be observing them by their ethnicity/nationality. They just care about their personal interests just like any other people around the world.

99% of Muslims don't care about each other. Let's stop talking about this 'Ummah' concept, it brings no benefits. 99% of Muslims are liars who pretend to believe in their religion and lie about believing in 'Ummah' concept. The only 1% unrealistic people who believe in such concept are ISIS/AQ. So let's stop making this a Muslim issue, if 99% Muslims are liars then this concept is thrown in the trash. The Palestinian cause is an humanitarian one which is concern of political activists of all backgrounds.

Muslims don't have responsibility towards Palestine as long as 99% continue to deny what their religion is about. Just like 100% of Christians/Jews who don't buy the BS in their religious texts so they don't follow it. The difference with them is they don't pretend to follow religion anymore, they have secular way of life.

It's really tragic how Muslims are in denial about their religion. I'm sick of these pseudo-Muslim closet atheist pieces of garbage(99% of Muslims) who try to correct everyone and claim Islam isn't what ISIS/AQ make it to be. Oh yes it is, in Islam you're supposed to form Islamic State with Islamic Law. The pseudo-Muslim retards around the world reject everything about Islam, have modern secular society and claim to represent what Islam is about. Religious reformists scumbags are the reason the society remains so backwards today. They delete everything unlikable in their religion, such as Islamic State and Sharia Law. And then keep religion relevant so they control the masses. Cut the BS out guys.

Btw, Islam allows armed struggle against Muslim governments who replaced state structure/social system with something else other than Islam. I'm positive Muhammad has said this in hadith.
