Off With His Head? Saudi Prince Arrested in Lebanon for Smuggling Cocaine

Saudi prince was detained at the Beirut International Airport in Lebanon’s largest drug bust in history, a security source told Sputnik.

Prince Abdel Mohsen Bin Walid Bin Abdulaziz and four of his friends were detained by airport security on Monday, while trying to smuggle about two tons of Captagon pills and some cocaine.

The four other men are also Saudi citizens, identified as Bandar Bin Saleh al-Shirali, Yaahia Bin Shaim Bin Shumari, Ziyad Bin Samir al-Hakim and Mubarak Bin Ali al-Kharisi.

Captagon is the brand name for the amphetamine phenelhylline, a synthetic stimulant known for psychoactive and stimulant effects. The drug is fairly popular in the Middle East.

"The smuggling operation is the largest one that has been foiled through the Beirut International Airport," AFP cited an anonymous Lebanese security source.

When detained, the five Saudis had the drugs neatly packed into cases, which were waiting to be put onto a private plane headed to Saudi Arabia, according to information given to Sputnik.

It will be interesting to see what will happen to the prince now. It's a well-known fact that Saudi Arabia has very strict rules when it comes to the possession of drugs. Under the Gulf Kingdom's interpretation of Sharia law, this type of crime is punishable by death through beheading with a sword.

The Kingdom has already beheaded more than 130 people this year for the crimes such as the possession of drugs, drug trafficking, murder, armed robbery, rape and apostasy.

Members of the Saudi royal family have had problems with the authorities of other countries in the past.
Last month, another Saudi prince was arrested in Los Angeles accused of taking cocaine, sexually assaulting a maid, threatening to kill women who refused his sexual advances and having sex with his male aide.

Back in 2013, a Saudi princess enslaved a woman from Kenya making her a housemaid, but criminal charges against the princess were eventually dropped.

If that prince is guilty along with his 4 friends, the law should apply for him as it does for everyone else. Whether this happens or not, I have no idea about. At least I very much hope so.

Another thing, I am not pro-House of Saud and I believe that KSA is badly in need of political and social reforms alongside most Arab and Muslim nations.

This is not only limited to princes but in general people of power. It happens in most countries of the world sadly but some are worse than others. I don't think that I have changed? Have I? Since I joined PDF, I have always had the same convictions and opinions.

People just mistake my support for Arabs as a people and Arab countries with blind support for regimes. It was never this way. Since the day I joined I have openly been criticizing Arab, Muslim and non-Muslim regimes whenever I have felt that this was necessary.

I think it's because people don't bother to read my long posts so they just assume things. People have this wrong idea that every Arab is a blind supporter of their regimes while in reality Arabs are some of the most politically active people who often revolt against their regimes despite sometimes impossible odds.

I still very much like Najdi sheep. Also to eat them because they are tasty. Their milk and the cheeses that are made from it are also very good.

They have numerous palaces in KSA, beach houses in KSA (along both the tropical Red Sea and Gulf) and in numerous other countries. I honestly think that it is the richest family in the world and probably in the history of the planet.

It is a distinctive sheep called Najdi sheep.

I have not been to Lebanon in ages. The situation there is changing almost every month. A few days ago Beirut was flooded with garbage during a recent heavy rainfall.

I have no experience on this front. Not from Najd but I know that there are many gems there. But notoriously a secretive bunch. I won't say more not to become the "enemy" of the resident Najdis here.

I was joking bro. I know that Najdis are well-known for their generosity, hospitality and that the region is home to many beautiful cities, historical regions and landscapes.

It's an extremely demonized region though and it's a pity actually. Many people in KSA blame all their ills on that region of the country.

You should really visit Ha'il if you have not and Unaizah. You won't regret it.

There is so much potential in KSA if that country just opened up a bit. It's criminal. It would change so many false perceptions. People have a totally wrong picture of us but to a great extent we are to blame for this ourselves. The regime is not helping either.
