The visit (July 25) has been now confirmed by the US side. Interesting, the official Vietnam media has not mentioned a word about the upcoming state visit in America. :D

President Obama will host Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang for an official state visit on July 25, the White House announced Thursday.

It will be only the third presidential state visit between the U.S. and Vietnam since the two countries re-established diplomatic relations in 1995. Mr. Sang did meet Mr. Obama during a summit in Hawaii in November 2011.

The White House said Mr. Obama “looks forward to discussing human rights, emerging challenges such as climate change,” and the importance of completing a Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.

Mr. Obama also wants to discuss how to strengthen cooperation on “regional strategic issues,” the White House said.

Amid U.S. concerns over human rights in Vietnam, the two countries have had only two official state visits. President Clinton visited Vietnam in November 2000 and President Nguyen Minh Triet came to the Bush White House in June 2007.

Obama is like a robot, his smile is always the same in every picture:laughcry:
come on, have more respect, he is the president of America, the most powerful man in the world...then comes Mr Xi, the Emperor of China. :D

The likelyhood that the Republic of Vietnam returns to Vietnam is as high as the return of Taiwan KMT to China.

I think so. Vietnam leadership talks with China and Russia before they head to America.

he he he, some good ol' fashioned American lovin.. :azn:
well, you know as a small nation Vietnam is not free in the decision to make friends and allies. We must consider reactions of Russia and China. We don´t want to anger them too much.
