Washington: US President Barack Obama believed that the "cancer of terrorism" was in Pakistan and the war on terror in Afghanistan could not be won without attacking and eliminating the al Qaeda and Taliban safe havens in the Pakistani tribal belt, according to a new book.

The soon-to-be-released book entitled 'Obama's War', written by noted journalist Bob Woodward, says that the then Director of National Intelligence had told Obama soon after his victory in the November 2008 presidential elections that Pakistan was a "dishonest" and "unwilling partner" in the war on terrorism.

The book, which claims that the Obama administration is sharply divided on the Afghan policy, is set to be released on Monday.

Two days after he was elected as President, Obama was told by Mike McConnell, the then Director of National Intelligence, that Pakistan was not trustworthy.

At McConnell's top-secret briefing for Obama, the intelligence chief told the President-elect that Pakistan was a dishonest partner, unwilling or unable to stop elements of its intelligence service from giving clandestine aid, weapons and money to the Afghan Taliban, Woodward wrote in the book, according to 'The Washington Post'.

By the end of the 2009 strategy review, Obama concluded that no mission in Afghanistan could be successful without attacking the al Qaeda and Afghan-Taliban havens operating with impunity in Pakistan's remote tribal region, the daily said citing the book.

"We need to make clear to people that the cancer is in Pakistan," Obama is quoted as saying at an Oval Office meeting on November 25, 2009.

Creating a more secure Afghanistan is imperative, the President said, "so the cancer doesn't spread" there, the paper reported quoting from the book.

"The war in Iraq draws no attention in the book, except as a reference point for considering and developing a new Afghanistan strategy.

"The book's title, 'Obama's Wars,' appears to refer to the conflict in Afghanistan and the conflicts among the President's national security team," it said.

The book discloses that the CIA created, controlled and paid for a clandestine 3,000-man paramilitary army of local Afghans, known as Counter-terrorism Pursuit Teams.

"Woodward describes these teams as elite, well-trained units that conduct highly sensitive covert operations into Pakistan as part of a stepped-up campaign against al-Qaeda and Afghan-Taliban havens there," the paper said.

The surgery to remove this , conducted by Prof . Dr. Bush failed despite his repeated operations and now Prof. Dr. Obama, is failing . Their diagnosis is only adding to the misery of the subject.

.
And the surgery to eliminate this must be done in Obama head!
Classic excuses to cover humiliating defeat in Afghanistan.
I am not pro taliban but Afghanis have every right to fight the invaders.

Cancer of terror lies in Pak, says Obama

WASHINGTON: US president Barack Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will have plenty to discuss and commiserate with each other when they meet in New Delhi in November.

Like the Indian PM, Obama is hobbled by discord and mutual contempt among many of his senior colleagues, aides, and policy-makers, according to new book by Bob Woodward (of Watergate fame) that has hit Washington DC like a thunderclap.

The book, "Obama's War", portrays a president anxious to pull US troops out of Afghanistan as soon as possible, and at odds with his military commanders and some senior advisers, who openly question whether his strategy will work. The book, which is officially slated to hit the stands next Monday but excerpts of which were published in the US media on Tuesday, also shows Obama's deep distrust of Pakistan, a possible explanation for relentless drone strikes on the country despite its misery from floods.

According to the book, Mike McConnell, the then director of National Intelligence tells Obama soon after his victory in 2008 elections that Pakistan is a dishonest and untrustworthy partner, unwilling or unable to stop elements of its intelligence service from giving clandestine aid, weapons and money to Taliban. By the end of the 2009 strategy review, Obama concludes that no mission in Afghanistan could be successful without attacking the al-Qaida and Taliban havens operating in Pakistan's tribal region.
"We need to make clear to people that the cancer is in Pakistan," Obama is quoted as saying at an Oval Office meeting on November 25, 2009. Creating a more secure Afghanistan is imperative, Obama says, "so the cancer doesn't spread" there.

But it is the picture of a dissent-ridden and dysfunctional administration that emerges from the book which is considered most damaging to the Obama presidency six weeks ahead of a major mid-term election in which Democrats are fighting to save their majority in the Congress and Senate.

Besides military commanders butting heads with the civilian leadership, the book also details personality clashes within the administration. National security adviser James Jones privately refers to Obama's political aides as "the water bugs", the "Politburo", the "Mafia", or the "campaign set" while Gen David Petraeus describes president's senior adviser David Axelrod as a "a complete spin doctor". At another point, Petraeus, feeling undermined by the administration, tells aides, the administration was "(expletive) with the wrong guy." Defense secretary Robert Gates threatens to walk out of another meeting after an offensive comment against one general by an Obama aid.

The book shows that Obama is not so much interested in winning the war outright as securing America. In an interview with Woodward in July, Obama says he didn't think about the Afghan conflict in "classic" terms of winning or losing: "I think about it more in terms of: Do you successfully prosecute a strategy that results in the country being stronger rather than weaker at the end?"

.
We believe cancer lies in Pantagon now lets compare the statements.

Why don't obama tell who created that cancer ?

.
I am surprised that Obama is thinking right. Pakistani brothers do not worry, there nothing coming from him other than those drone attacks...

.
What Americans need to understand is that this blame game isn't going to help them achieve their objectives so it's better if they learn to keep these intelligence breakthrough's to them selves and help Pakistan in eradicating the this so-called tumor of terrorism. BTW American presidents words hold no credibility after the Iraq war fiasco.

LOL @ Obama

Here's a nice example of US policy....

'If you fail at something, blame someone else!'

Yeah the midterm elections aren't looking good for the Obama administration. :azn:

So he's trying to take bites out of China and Pakistan, but he's got no cards to play. His economy is on the brink of a double-dip, he is going to get hurt the most from this little game of theirs.
