Iranian diplomacy revolves around ways to embarrass US image internationally. Its all part of the media warfare, response to the American led sanctions and media villification of Iranian nukes and the state.

Anything less would have been an ultimate embarrassment for the Mullahs and what they stand for in their own country.

Therefore given the circumstances they're facing internationally, showcasing CIA failure and warmongering to the world is quite a befitting response.

Reasonable enough. But assume that the drone displayed is indeed the captured/lost one, am willing to be dollars to doughnuts that there are plenty of rationally minded people in the Iranian military leadership advocating silence. The US has a global presence so there are plenty of opportunities to embarrass US in many other ways. Recently, Iran grabbed a few US citizens and called them 'spies'. In the ME, just throw in the initials 'CIA' and you will have plenty of sheeple believing and mindlessly bleating out whatever you want them to say.

In this day and age of high reliance upon gadgets, and we are talking about going back to the Cold War, a technical intelligence coup is not an opportunity to be wasted by trumpeting its capture. An adversary is not going to be deterred from that loss. He will find another way to gain knowledge. But in keeping silent of your advantage, he will continue to rely upon what he perceives to be 'tried and true' and thereby giving you plenty of opportunities to do far worse damages to him than he could to you.

So if Iran truly did 'hacked' into the drone's operational system in Nevada, it would be utterly foolish to use that access to steal just one drone. We will just hardened the system and come up with new drones. Is anyone here foolish enough to believe we cannot do that? Rather, it would have been wiser to use that access to monitor US drone operations worldwide and preempt the US from gaining any usable intelligence at the ground level AT IRANIAN CONVENIENCE. How advantageous is that? Better than parading a few addled Americans in front of Al-Jazeera's cameras and calling them 'CIA spies'.

Actually US has a right under international law to ask for the return of the drone. The same law allowed US to take back its damaged spy plane from China. But under the same international law, Iran can not return the drone. Since under the same laws, Iran is under sanctions and can not export any kind of military equipment. No military equipment is forbidden by sanctions to send out any military equipment outside of its borders. So US must scrap sanctions against Iran to get the drone back.

Actually, this is a stupid post. If Iran had any ACTIVE role in the drone's acquisition, that would make Iran a thief and a thief must returned any stolen property. This 'export' nonsense is about business transactions where two or more parties consented to exchanges of goods and or services.
