SPG are solely for PM (and their families) ex-PMs, President and (because of special reasons) Gandhi family.

Dont you think SPG should be expanded and NSG should be kept only as a anti-terror response unit?

IDK about expanding SPG- I think they should be responsible for sole protection of PM, ex-PM and Pres being a executive protection agency and Gandhis have no right having SPG cover- but anyways. Maybe a new agency should be created similar to SPG such as DSS of US that can protect the highest and most at risk politicians of India with equipment and training equivalent to SPG- they can be recruited from SRG. Wrt to NSG- 100% agree they were wrongly allowed to expand into VVIP protection duties because of the vulgarity and ignorance of Indian politicians of old- they were created as a CT unit and should remain as such they have come far too bloated an organisation because of the SRG's existence. I'd go as far to say NSG should be made up entirely of CAPF personnel and there is absolutely no need to have SAG remain made up of IA soldiers on deputation if the NSG ensures the selection standards are still top-notch and grueling and the training first-class then anyone able to pass the selection process and complete training should be a capable operator regardless of being from CAPFs of IA. This would free up more IA personnel for regular duties and would be similar to US FBI's HRT- NSG could even recruit ex-IA SFs as FBI HRT does with US SOF operators.

Lets don't do politician bashing here. Many our netas clearly needs protection as they are on the hit list of many domestic and international terrorist organizations.

This is something I stated after having read couple of news around some tussle between Chidambaram and some politicians when Chidambaram reviewed the security threats levels for different politicians.

I don't think so. The Yadavs and Mayawati still had their way. Mayawati in fact increased her security through state police though she was under Z plus category which was reduced only after she lost power and she started claiming she has security threat for her life though she is still in the Z plus category but only the no of state police providing security to her was reduced.

Well that family has had its run-inns with assassination.Sonia Gandhi is head of the ruling coalition.And a Major political leader.Considering Her Ex-P.M husband and Ex-PM Mother in law were victims of political assassinations threat perception is real.

Then give them NSG protection like the rest of high-risk politicians. Why should a special case be made for one family? The SPG are for executive protection- that is all.

This is excellent news.

Politicians do deserve security, but not at the cost of anti-terror operations.

The NSG for VIP security is overkill and a mis-allocation of personnel.

He is not at all bad, he has given a kind of free hand to CRPF to go against Maoists.

Yesterday while travelling to Hyd from Chennai, I met a CRPF officer going to Chattisgarh. He simply said that it is better than before, there is some firm command from the top. He still said that if IA can get involved they can bloody complete the job in 10 days..
