The difference is that Assange was a nuisance while Snowden have classified info which potentially could seriously undermine US security. I wouldn't be surprised if he's found face down in some harbour or back alley.

I believe Iceland was where he wanted to go. However, a conservative government was elected and they want to improve their relationship with Washington. So, Snowden would be deported as soon as he arrives.

Actually Regina Ips said they will consider extradite Snowden back to US if they request and he should not think of HK as a heaven for him and urge him to leave.

Many law maker in HK have the same thought and China will not keep him simply because he is ex-CIA, so, don't get your hopes up.

Sweden and US have extradition arrangement, Sweden actually have an outstanding warrant for Assange and the very reason why Assange refused to surrender to UK authority is because they will extradite him back to Sweden and Sweden will most likely extradite Assange back to the US.

Only 1 place in Europe he might have hope : Switzerland.

Only 2 places are safe:

China (better in HK or Macao for China to avoid direct showdown with the US), and Russia.

The prob with Russia is you'll get bored there. Actually Snowden has made the best choice IMO.

If Snowden believes he's is a righteous crusade then why hide behind the intricacies of HK extradition law. Why not stand up and face the music if he so believed in his cause. Nelson Mandela spent many years in jail standing up against apartheid. Snowden is just some loser craving for some TV time and internet fame. There is nothing heroic in what he is doing. There is only shame in hiding in a foreign land.
