The one clarification that I will make is that I committed this mistake on the strong advice of the political leadership at that time who are now blatantly disowning connections with it.

Why he had to listen to that political leadership that he himself brought into power after shamelessly rigging the election through his ISI? He forgot to add that he had to all that because of US/Europe danda and his strong wish to continue as the president of Pakistan and any cost.

NRO may have allowed Asif Zardari or corrupt politicians to contest elections but it certainly was not the cause of their coming to power. NRO is not responsible for electing the PPP as the majority party or allowing Asif Zardari to win an election. NRO is not responsible for corrupt politicians sitting in Assemblies, or being appointed as Ministers. All this happened through the votes of the people of Pakistan. NRO is not responsible for all Parliamentarians of Provincial and National Assemblies and Senate having overwhelmingly voted for Asif Zardari as President. The nation has to learn to cast their votes for the right person and the right party.

In my life I have not heard more bogus an explanation than this one. What cleared up the way for the so-called criminals to take part in the elections in the first place? People of Pakistan or the NRO? If he had not issued the NRO, how BB or others could have submitted their nomination papers in the first place? When he introduced the ‘graduation’ thingy, were the people of Pakistan still voted for the non-graduates? Or Could they? What choice Pakistanis had if the accused were not allowed to take part in the first place? NS was not allowed to take part in the elections, what people of Pakistan could do? Did they surround the election commission and got ballots printed with NS as one contender?

Politicians gave him wrong advice; his Generals gave him wrong advice, people of Pakistan made wrong choice, every one is wrong but not Musharraf. There must be a limit of nonsense, but with him and his supporter, there seems no limit to any stupidity, and interestingly, they think people will buy this idiocy as well.

Deputy Attorney General says NRO in line with CoD

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Attorney General Muhammad Hussain Azad on Sunday pointed out that National Reconciliation Ordinance was in line with provisions of the Charter of Democracy (CoD), which had pledged for withdrawal of politically-motivated cases against workers and the restoration of democracy.

Azad said that a clause of the CoD, signed between former prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif during their exile, envisages that all illegal charges registered against the political activists, especially against the leadership of the parties would be dropped to provide them relief.

'Both the leaders had pledged for reconciliation among all democratic forces. It is, in fact, a draft of reconciliation, which provides level playing field for all political forces to participate in the democratic process, which were earlier restricted by Pervez Musharraf', he added.

He made it clear that National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) is not a law as no legislation has been made on it so far; however, the president enjoys immunity under Article 248(2) of Constitution.

'Unfortunately, the democratic powers have always come under hot water whenever they tried to deliver for the welfare of the public,' he said, adding that same was the case in present circumstances with the President Asif Ali Zardari, whose is under media trial.

Lauding remarkable sacrifices of the president for strengthening of democracy during various regimes, Azad said President Asif Ali Zardari preferred jail over compromising on principles.

'Can any body answer before the nation that on which grounds Zardari was tortured and imprisoned for more than a decade,' he questioned.

In reply to a question about MQM's stance on the NRO, he said 'it is the legal right of MQM to benefit from the Ordinance or not.'

On the resignation of CM Punjab's advisor Saeed Mehdi after being nominated NRO beneficiaries, he said that it seeems that Mehdi was pressurized to step down. -APP

Hats off to the unsung heroes, the National Accountability Bureau. They are a government agency, and so if they really wanted to, they could have created a lot of problems and delay in this process. As far as I know, they did what the Courts ordered. Good work, NAB. I guess even the biggest Gen. Musharraf critics must agree, he got this one right.

SCoP did the right thing by asking a 'SIGNED' list of NRO beneficiaries. Now the interior ministry should follow suit and after a review, issue a list of names on ECL. This list should be made public so that media and politicans don't use this list according to their motives.

Dr. Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghauri not on Exit Control List

ISLAMABAD: A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said that MQM ministers Dr. Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri were not on the Exit Control List.

A statement to this effect was issued by the Interior Ministry following the suspension of the Secretary Interior, Chaudhry Qamar Zaman by the Prime Minister.

On Friday, the Interior Secretary had stopped the Defence Minister, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar from travelling to China on an official tour.

Earlier, there were reports that the two MQM ministers' names were on the Exit Control List for being NRO beneficiaries.
