IAF's requirement is that of a possible dual action by China and Pak. So it's going to be an overwhelming numbers, now with it's economy it'll get the near best, with recent policies and economic leverage it'll also force outside OEMs to invest in local companies and produce infrastructure.

It'll only get worse, you had to deal with a lethargic socialist oriented India since independence, that's changing.

As long as Indians know that breaching Pakistan’s redlines will result in nuclear winter in their country then Pakistanis have nothing to worry about. back in 80s LCA now known as tejas concept was initiated by india for the future replacement of Mig 21 how ever 35 years after tejas is still in evaluation and testing phase and 240+ mig 21's are awaiting retirement. along with mig 27 and jaguars that makes 300 of fighter aircraft awaiting retirement in in next 5-8 years even most of them well surpassed their useful life, with tejas being absolute failure and 2 decade behind it wont serve as replacement for these 300 fighters , while indian air force well legging behind her 42 squadron requirement , ability to replace its aging fleet of old fighters put a big question mark on iaf policy makers..
they did spent billions for only 36 rafales , still they have to deal with massive fleet of obsolete fighter.
on the other hand Paf came up with thunder way after then lca and today thunder has replace 100+ obsolete fighters and soon it will cover up all obsolete inventory of PAF. so Both airforce's has its own share of strengths and weakness

The takeaway here is India has reduced PAF to a defensive force. I don't think Pakistan can engage in adventurism any more. That in itself is good enough. Keep superiority over conventional weapons and other limited but effective strikes can be thought off if needed.

83 aircraft Mk1 are on firm order, a total of 324 will be supplied of which the balance beyond 324 will be to Mk2 specification.

The IAF is reluctant to buy cheap and light technology, even though on test, the Tejas is found to exceed MiG 21 performance; as an alternative, it has always sought to acquire aircraft that could exceed the capability of Pakistani, and more important, Chinese aircraft in service.

However, they have made a compromise for the sake of furthering Indian development, and this substantial order is due to that decision.

we have been hearing LCA tejas being in production for a decade , its a fact that IAF is totally clueless about the fate of tejas even after huge funds are poured in to project it dosnt seem to feasible any more even if start to replace old migs from today still it will take IAF 20 years to do so , dosent seem right in 5+ generation ERA. so at one side IAF is moderately upgrading it self with the best in business by spending heavily but seem to failing in replacing its aging fleet. Phasing out old fighter plane is a gradual process it will take decades ,so far i dont see any substantial plan to do so, IAF can show off with goodies like Rafale and MKI's but its a big task to retire and re-equip the old squadrons.
on the other hand PAF may not have the best goodies on hand other then few f-16 block 52 but it has done wonderful job by replacing 2nd gen fighters by a 4 gen very capable JF 17 thunder , once its done with replacing all f7's and old mirages which it will in coming 5 years then Paf will not have to worry about 300 + indian migs and jaguars as they will be nothing against capable Thunder , only substantial threat then india post on Pakistan will be mki's and Rafale , but by then Block 3 thunder will also be flying to answer threat.

Pakistan don't have stable economy , PAF didn't have budget to buy european fighter jets like RAaFLE , eurofighter
But PAF can buy cheap Russian SU35 ! We should rise of voice and make our government to fund paf to make an SU35 deal ASAP because its now and never situation
in next 3 year indian will have 36 rafale they will be making f16 and f18 at home , they currently have 250+ su30

Su35 is not cheap
India is not going to make f16 or f18 at home
And there 250+ su30 are not only for pakistan they have a long border with china too to defend
