AGRA: Rakesh Chand (54) served in the CRPF, surviving a terror attack in Baramullain Kashmir in 1990, during which he was shot five times. For the past week, Chand, a resident of Budhana village near here, had been visiting SBI's Tajganj branch every day to withdraw money for his medical treatment, but without success. Depressed, he shot himself at home on Saturday morning.

Chand, who retired as head constable in 2012, shot himself with his licenced handgun at his home. "My father urgently needed money for the treatment of his heart condition. He used to receive a monthly pension of Rs 15,000, of which he needed Rs 6,000-7,000 for doctor's visit and medicines," Chand's son Sushil Kumar said.

"He also wanted to start treatment for depression because for the past month he had been feeling low because of money problems. After repeatedly trying to withdraw money, he was forced to take his life." Sushil, an ex-serviceman himself, had taken voluntary retirement from BSF.

"He was shot in the chest five times during a terrorist attack on his unit at Baramulla in 1990. This had caused heart-related problems," he added. Chand's body has been sent for postmortem.

Govt extends healthcare facilities to retired police personnel
Last updated: 27 December, 2010
New Delhi, Dec 27, (PTI):
Good news for over eight lakh retired paramilitary and central police personnel.

Government has now decided to extend healthcare facilities to them and their families through hospitals under the command of these forces across the country.

The families of the retired personnel from forces like CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG and Assam Rifles can now avail the facilities of diagnosis, ultra sound, X-ray and supply of prescribed medicines among others.

Till recently, only serving personnel could avail the facilities of these hospitals.

However, personnel and officers of these forces availing such facilities under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) will not be eligible for the scheme, which has recently been notified by the Union Home Ministry.

"After retirement, medical complications and regular health checkups is the least one expects from the organisation which I had served all my life. This new announcement will indeed help us a lot," 68-year-old K Muralidhar, a retired BSF constable said.

The scheme will cover spouse and children of a personnel who has retired from any of the forces under the command of the Home Ministry.

"The widows of central paramilitary personnel receiving pension are a special category under this scheme," a senior paramilitary officer said.

According to the Home Ministry directive, base and command hospitals of BSF, CRPF, Assam Rifles, ITBP, CISF and NSG spread across various states have been instructed to take care of the medical needs of these personnel.

Any retired personnel can visit these hospitals in the vicinity of his or her residence after getting an identification card from his force, the officer said.

"According to an estimate, about eight lakh retired personnel and their families will benefit from the latest decision. Apart from age related issues, difficult duties during their career make these personnel prone to medical complications and diseases," the officer said.

The government is also coming up with a first ever referral hospital for paramilitary and central police forces in Greater Noida, near the national capital.

Good that you brought this up. Tell me how many of these facilities have actually reached the ground level? Can you be sure and claim that all these Government schemes have reached the ground level and every concerned person is able to use it?

.
Hope you know about CSD , Military Hospitals , railway schools , sainik schools , military schools yes atleast for military and paramilitary the facilities reach where they are supposed to reach ..if you say facilities are less then I agree with you ...but please dont relate two things ...hope you remember in Vidharba people even registered the natural deaths as suicides to get the compensation for farmer suicides ... I know muslims in south asia including Indian muslims mainly sunnis hate Modi to the core and its fair on their behalf , but relating two things which are not connected is not fair even on their behalf

So can you absolutely state that all military personnel have those facilities within their reach and even the CRPF person who died had access to all such facilities?

What was your intent when you posted the above quoted text and what has that got to do with the thread?
