PressTV - Pakistan offers German company to finish IP pipeline project

Pakistan has started the construction of the final phase of Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project by rewarding a tender to a German company to finish the work before 2014, Press TV reports.

According to Pakistan’s Secretary Petroleum Ejaz Chaudhry, the country has offered USD250 million to the German company, ILF Engineering, to lay the pipeline inside Pakistan’s territory before 2014.

Pakistan is likely to complete a detailed route survey for laying the gas pipeline from the Iranian border close to the Makran Costal Highway to its off-take point at Nawabshah in the current month, covering a distance of over 781 kilometer.

Energy-hungry Pakistan is willing to increase its fuel imports from various sources, including Iran, to reduce power shortage that has crippled the country’s industry and shaved percentage points off its GDP growth.

In addition to importing oil from Iran, Islamabad has been in talks with Tehran over the construction of a gas pipeline which is to transfer Iran’s natural gas to Pakistan.

Washington has repeatedly reminded Islamabad of its resentment over the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

German or Russian.... where is the tender and transparency in award of tender?

Corruption.... and nothing else.

But I doubt German will accept this deal.. They are on the American side.

What will this pipeline benefit other than providing gas to us?
I mean can the future pipeline connect to China? If the Chinese are interested then that will be good for us. We can make $$$...

Are Pakistani companies incapable of handling such a project? How hard is it to weld some pipes together? So much for actually trying to develop Pakistan.

Is it more Corruption or incompetence?

Dont tell me that the Pipes are being imported also...

Oh trust me. It's corruption, not incompetence. Our leaders are so corrupt, that they wouldn't have allowed Pakistan to gain nukes if the west pleaded.

Nawaz, the president during our nuclear tests, almost gave up our nukes for the sake of the west.

That's how bad it is.

its something fishy here. sui gas pipeline company in pakistan did all the job of gas piping inside pakitsan from sui to peshawer every city every town has pipeline of gas made by pakistan . and nope pipes are made in pakistan since 30 years .one of their pipe-coating plant is near my village .

Maybe its not corruption and Pakistan is desperate to finish it fast... We are dependent on gas for lots of things and maybe that is why if you all read the article, it says a deadline of completion BEOFORE 2014....

Deal!!! Are you serious?

It's a bloody business for any one!

Award me the contract and i'll build it for you till 2014.

Was govt. sleeping in yester years?

There is no excuse for by passing system.

Why don't you guys do it yourselves? Would save some foreign exchange and also would be free of foreign interference.
