Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami today indicated that the trial of genocide committed by Pakistan army during the 1971 Liberation War can take place anytime as there is no statute of limitations in terms of time.

"I think we should be clear about it without getting into legal formalities…in other words, even [if] something happened long ago," he said when asked which provision of the 1974 tripartite agreement is holding back to try the Pakistani generals who committed genocide during the War of Liberation in 1971.

There is no statute of limitation on any kind of arrangement that may have been arrived in and this is something entirely within [the jurisdiction of] the government of Bangladesh to assess the history and see how this goes forward, said the high commissioner.

"History is history," said Doraiswami noting that the question is relevant this year when Bangladesh is set to celebrate 50 years of its independence.

Bangladesh has recently reiterated the importance of resolving outstanding bilateral issues with Pakistan, including an official apology from Pakistan for the genocide it committed during Bangladesh's Liberation War in 1971.

Bangladesh also sought completion of the repatriation of stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh, and settling the issue of the division of assets.

Bangladesh also made it clear that it cannot forget the atrocities committed by Pakistan in 1971 and the pain will remain forever.

Desperate shits, clutching to the straws I see.

1971 was an unfortunate event no doubt no arguments, but one cant deny the fact that there were atrocities commuted from both sides, and if it has to be probed then it has to be done independently.

A terrorist country like india has no right to sit as a judge where they themselves are of the guilty.

Like they say, a man in a brothel can be no ones judge.

.
It's new Indian trick you see. You know public no longer care and you will find that our politicians shall no longer be interested too.

1971 and Pakistan issue is fast becoming obsolete because BAL has no opposition now, so Pakistan and 1971 rhetoric is no longer needed for them!

I am Bangladeshi of origin, there those Bangladeshi s who were directly effected by the war that still have scars.

If only if Pakistan gave an official apology, divided the assets equally, I will see no hesitation from Bangladesh in participating with pak In a new forged relationship.

This will stop India from continually bringing up 71'. As it will no longer be an issue in Bangladesh.

Sometimes for the greater strategic good some sacrifices need to be made. Most of you know of my digust for Indians I also have similar disgust for hardline Pakistanis that see no fault.

If Pakistan and Bangladesh band together then India will turn into a shrivalling little cat. However bdesh cannot engage on mass scale conflict.

if Pakistan aplogosies without a thorough independent investigation, then so should Bangladesh because it wasnt just innocent Bengalis that were killed in 1971.

Those who went out with the intention of actively supporting to kill bengalis should accept risk of peril. As bengalis 1st option was not to commit genocide.

This is a prime example of Pakistan hardliners arrogance which disgusts. Even when there is greater strategic game to play to kill India. How ever hardliners paks secretly wish for a strong India or otherwise Pakistan will have nothing to hate.

It is a guerrilla group acting under curfew ,were the Bangladesh had no direct command of, creating anarchy. The guerrilla group was acting under curfew which was enforced by pak army. The pak army was acting under direct orders from West pak government to exterminate bengalis.

So there's a difference an alsmost anarchist group acting out of survival and an organised armed group acting out of direct orders from their gov to exterminate bengalis.

so Mukti Bahini didnt kill and rape innocent Biharis civilians? they dont deserve an apology? only Pakistan has to apologise?

Muslim brotherhood will prevail. Idol-worshippers begone!

Is good to see that Pak-Bd-relations are improving. Fights happen in every family (on a state level they turn out to be very bloody unfortunately) but your family will always be your family! I want a strong Bangladesh on Pakistans side and we will inshallah be one big family again.

Guys let's move on from apology issue. Let's leave it for now. You see how the thread is ultimately going to be derailed?

Sometimes learn to compromise and act as Ashraful Makhlukat.

If we feel that bad things happened ,let's forgive each others without demanding anything for now , because that are base on pure ego! Please try to move on , enough is enough I think . Let's forget and forgive!

Thank you.

Biharis that west pak accepted as west Pakistanis and agreed to take them back but yet failed to do so.

Which show the great extent of care paks have for biharis, which is b.s. bdesh gives greater care to these people then pak ever will.

Again extreme hardliner pak ignorance and arrogance using biharis to not accept any responsibility. It was almost anarchy guerrilla group with its leader locked behind bars. The biharis collaborated with pak army actively at their own peril. In comparison to an armed group acting out of direct orders to exterminate bengalis.

Point out the bihari, what about the bengalis that migrated to the Sindh province before 71'. Did they seek to kill west paks in west pak? No.

This demonstrates how infallible hardline pak are with their arrogance and ignorance.

i am bihari myself. i had a lot of family in Bangladesh. some left before 16th December 1971 and some after. my mother's grandfather for instance in buried in Dhaka. of course i am unhappy that Pakistan forgot about a lot of Biharis in Bangladesh for decades. but that doesnt make me hate Pakistan.

Again extreme hardliner pak ignorance and arrogance

hardline is not accepting any responsibility and not apologising. softline is accepting all responsibility and apologising without any surveys/proof. the middle path is the one i am on, where one of 3 things need to happen in order for me to agree to Pakistan apologising.

1.) either Bangladesh release the death count surveys of 1972 and 1973, which havent been released to the public.

2.) or, Bangladesh allows a new investigation into the death counts and how many each side killed, allows Pakistan to participate and other countries are invited to act as the referee/mediator.

3.) or Pakistan and Bangladesh both apologise for killings of innocents done by both sides without an investigation and with no stated death counts.

there is no way Pakistan didnt kill some innocents in Bangladesh. but there is also no way Pakistan did all the killings, and Pakistan should not be the only one to apologise. the reason Bangladesh refuses to meet Pakistan halfway and also apologise is the same reason Bangladesh doesnt release the death count surveys of 1972 and 1973 and keeps it locked up in a vault somewhere.
