No new front to be opened: Kayani
Published: November 16, 2010
ISLAMABAD – US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Halboorke, called on Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani at GHQ on Monday.
According to the ISPR, the visiting dignitary remained with the Chief of Army Staff for sometime and discussed the matters of mutual interest.
However, other sources informed TheNation that the US envoy discussed host of issues with the COAS including military operations against militants in Afghanistan, talks with Afghan Taliban, forthcoming NATO meeting in Lisbon and regional stability. The sources further said that General Kayani emphasised the need for political approach to resolve Afghan conflict and opposed the US drone strikes against the militants, as they were causing more collateral damage and negatively impacting the efforts against terrorists.
According to the sources, General Kayani briefed the US envoy about Pakistan’s efforts against the militants and made it clear that Pakistan would not open new front until it consolidated gains in the areas already recovered from the militants.

This i suppose is s significant step towards normalising the political stability in pakistan. Yes, consolidate the current positions before moving on to more ambitious projects. The army is already thinned out as it is. Any more fronts would simply prove to be disastrous.

i was listening to Richard Halboorke interviewed by Shahid Masood wherein he was saying it will be decided by Pakistan army as when to open a news front .

So it means Kiyani is clear in his stand and had conveyed it as well

I not sure this is good news or bad news for Pakistan. It can backfire.
1) TTP and the likes can relax in NW.
2) US might increase drone strike which will alienate terrorist in NW against Pakistan. Something they want to avoid.
3) Terrorist will never be cleared in Pakistan.
4) Acceptence by Pakistan that NW is not governed by them.

BUT

US is pressuring Pakistan to Launch a swat type military operation in NWA. Pakistan has so far resisted such operation because Pakistani troops are all ready fighting in many theaters. Operation in NWA will over stretch Pakistani forces resulting, its gains turning into losses. US know that Pakistan cannot afford right now to go into North Waziristan Agency (NWA).

a year or year and half ago US, and NATO vacated Posts from Kunar and Nuristan provinces of Afghanistan. These areas are hub of proto Salfiest Punjpiries. during Afghan jihad these areas were under influence of Arab and Foreign militants. US and NATO withdrawal from these locations have provided safe heaven to militants, who are using them for regrouping against Pakistan. This withdrawal has also resulted in Pakistan’s compulsion in keeping troops for counter insurgency operations in all ready cleared areas.

so the way at present PA is spread and conducting CI operations , we dont have enough troops to launch NWA operation. I dont understand why people forget Nouristan and Kunar and Talk about NWA. May be at Information battle ground our media has failed to show the other side of picture .

You mean politics as usual by both sides?

Which comment spark this idea of both sides?

i think Fatman mention only Americans! and following comment just named the behavior of Americans.

It would be too simplistic to think that the COAS is not as cunning and devious as his job surely requires him to be, specially in dealing the the Americans.

1-TTP relax only in Dehli and Kabul.
2-US can increase drone strikes but cannot be supported without sharing of intelligence and evidence, before or after the attack they can have this liberty.
3-NW is not Pakistan and terrorist is nothing without RDX. we need to cut heads of those who gave them logistics support and without logistics they'll return to their holes.
4-It will take time after Zardari gone.

You can assume things but how you read your assumptions in other's sentences is very confusing.

interestingly, i believe opposite i.e. COAS is an upright man.

Well again i can't hold you back from blaming COAS for any thing.
