No Indian writer to take part in Int'l Urdu Conference in Pakistan

Urdu is not an Indian language, we've got nothing to do with this.

You got that right.

Well urdu is derived out of hindi which is derived out of Sanskrit.
So India is the mother of very many languages.

No, it is not. Urdu is derived from Farsi, Turkish and Arabic. Hindi is an entirely different language and has no correlation with Urdu.

Wow the supressive attitude of extremists in India, whom I believe to be in minority, is highly visible in this post. What about the muslims of Hyderabad, Lucknow, Dehli (ever heard of Mirza Ghalib?) ... and Kashmir your so called atooot ang! The supression of Urdu language was prevalent during pre partition in British India by the hindu extremists. Many consider these urdu-hindi movements as one of the initial seeds of discord among muslims and hindus, which eventually lead to creation of Pakistan. I thought after partition that was stuff of past as India has rightly included Urdu, spoken by 50 million+ In India, as one of its many official languages. But just like in US even after 100+ years since the end of civil war and abolishment of slavery, you can always find some confederate suporters in the southern states.

It is the national language and lingua franca of Pakistan, and an official language of six states of India. It is also one of the 22 official languages recognized in the Constitution of India.

Only a minute part of it smarty :P
Around 99% of Urdu verbs have their roots in Sanskrit and Prakrit.[21]

Any suppression of language or culture is bad as it removes the way of life of people. Having said that, Urdu is official language of 6 Indian states (just put that after I did some reading about the language). so its far from "suppressed".
Please do not take otherwise, but the language and ethnicity suppression happened on bengali by urdu.

:omghaha:

Seriously guys, isn't Urdu the language of all the Muslims of 'Hindustan' ?
( Apart from Bengal).

Actually in contract, India should cherish Urdu as it is a Hindustani Language. Critics and people might have different opinion, but if i am not wrong, it is a language that is only spoken and understood by South Asian people only.

Go and do some research before showing off your ignorance here

Urdu has 800 years of history. Indian Hindi is a new language - an attempt to go back to Sanskrit.

An analogy would be "Old-Germanizing" English and getting rid of all French and non-German influences from it - that would be a new language in its own right.

If Hindi is not new, name one Hindi poet from past! You can't, because there wasn't any.

I think I already mentioned about 50mil+ speakers of Urdu in India, as well as stated the fact that India has declared Urdu as one of its official language ...but thanks for providing the numbers at the state level which further counters the poster who was saying that 'India has nothing to do with Urdu'. The supression I was refering to was at individual bigotry and by certain extremists sections or parties in India.

I would like to disagree with bengali language and ethnic suppression, but then even if that happened at certain level the price was paid in 1971 ... and British India paid in 1947.

They are (Indians) trying to finish Urdu from India !! Being the language of Mughals they cannot stomach it !!
Modi Raj !

No we do not like Mughals like Aurngeb or outsider Babur...But Akbar was a good King...We do not have any issue with him...Anyway, Urdu is state language in many states.

Can prove it about your 99% claim?
Because we believe its mixture of farsi arabic and maybe some other languages.
Where is 99% sanskrit can you prove it?
Thanks

did some more digging. here you go:
Urdu nouns and adjective can have a variety of origins, such as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Pushtu and even Portuguese, but ninety-nine per cent of Urdu verbs have their roots in Sanskrit/Prakrit.

thank you for taking the bengali comment in the right spirit. And I do agree with you that the "india has nothing to do with Urdu" comment was certainly in bad taste given that the wiki article states that about 6 states in India have it as an offical language.
