It was due to an agreement the tribals had with Quaid-e-Azam (from what i've heard)... free electricity!!

Btw, according to news sources, they only get it for a few hours daily.. 3/4 from what i've read in the reports..

Govt has been trying to work something up so that the tribals start coughing up money.. i guess they can start right after the operation

Chacha g, you need to understand that in those days, it was Pakistan who needed the tribals, not the other way around. MA Jinnah had lengthy verbal agreements with the tribal elders. FATA and it's status, in itself was a special case.

P.S. Electricity may not have been there, however, there were many other clauses...... I'll ask some elders about it.
