Some time back there was a post in which the nuclear war issue was raised. If I remember correctly India is not going to fire first where as it might be possible for Pakistan to use small yield tactical nuclear weapons at which US would come into stopping India to use its nuclear weapons as that would amount to first strike. This is with regards to current Indian nuclear deterrence. India currently does not have tactical nuclear weapons or battle field nuclear capability.

Though this is not as simple as it sounds because both the countries have second strike capability so who ever starts first would realistically be out of his mind because it would be an end of both.

You are correct it is not 1945 where one nuclear bomb was enough but still a second was used. Though it is rummer that the second was made for Hitler's Germany. In 2015 one would require more that a couple.

Lets us not talk of nukes. Any war between future India and Pakistan will be conventional. Nukes are just show pieces. I doubt they would ever be used. Only a fool would want to destroy himself to satisfy his ego.
