Narendra Modi versus Nitish Kumar: who has the edge?

The past eight years have been a story of the meteoric rise of two Chief Ministers. Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar have led their respective states, breaking all records for Chief Ministers, most of which are unknown outside their home states. And now, it looks like they might clash, with both having Prime Ministerial ambitions.

So who has the edge? Who has the greater appeal? Read on to find out whether NaMo or NiKu has the upper hand, heading into 2014:

1. Beard: While both had impressive grey beards when they started out as CMs, NaMo’s has become more white and more Santa-Claus like, while NiKu’s has all but vanished, leaving him with stubble like Sylvester Stallone when he forgets to shave. We’re going to call this one a tie, because all beards are badass.

2. Name abbreviation: While both NaMo and NiKu are good abbreviations, we’re going to go with NaMo , since NiKu A. hasn’t really caught on with the press or with the public at large and B. sounds like it would be a good nickname for a toddler or child. So, unless he changes his name or someone thinks of a different abbreviation, Nitish Kumar loses this one.

3. Enemies of corruption: Both have waged long wars against corruption in their states, and both have put money-grubbing ministers behind bars. We feel, however, that this one goes to NiKu by a small margin, since he had 15 years of Lalu rule to clean up when he came to power in 2005. Either way, we aren’t likely to see a 2G scam from either of them.

4. Complaining about the Central Government: Both NaMo and NiKu have more complaints about the government in Delhi than a wife whose husband recently lost his job. Every day, one or the other (or both) is seen in a rally, protesting that the Congress has completely ignored their state’s demands. We don’t know if this is political posturing or actual stepmotherly treatment, but it’s a tie either way.

5. Jockeying for the Best CM tag: Every statement that either NaMo or NiKu makes in the press is about the development in their states, and how Gujarat/Bihar should be a model for the entire country. Looking at them, we are reminded of the Salman-SRK rivalry, or the Kamal-Rajini rivalry.

6. Weight: Now that we’ve exhausted all the vaguely sensible parameters, it’s time to come to the last, and least – appearance. And since we’ve already covered beards, weight would probably be the next thing to look at. No one wants another Deve Gowda, who could get stuck in his chair. This one, too, is a tie, because both NaMo and NiKu are non-drinkers who eat moderately.

Which money grubbing minister did Namo put behind wars? I can't think of even one.

While one will be the PM aspirant of the BJP the other will be that of the third front.

Purely speaking as an outsider. (i do not support either party) Nitish is a more acceptable candidate, he has the capacity to bring together a collation of the right wing and the left together(CPI,CPIM,SP,BSP AIIDMK,JDU). thus forming the third front. it is important to note that modi oppositions is not from outside but from within the bjp party.

nitish vs modi is overhyped.......its congi dirty tricks trying to drive a wedge between them to get nitish in alliance with them........

no one is untouchable in indian politics......the one unchanging rule in politics is that there are no friends or enemies....if there are sufficient seats, every party, except perhaps the communists, would be lining behind modi throwing out the morals.......

There is a saying , 'every dog has its day"

If Gujral and Devegouda can become PM, why can't Nitish...

But nitish must not become PM bcoz..
a) He is not Pan-India leader
b) His works have not yet paid in Bihar,
c) Though Bihar is developing at 10+% rate, but still that is very slow growth.
d) Bihar need 25% growth rate for 15 years to match Gujrat/Maharastra 10% growth rate.
e) His Sickularism is propagating Islamic terror in Bihar, recent all terrorist catch is from Bihar.

If that was the case then in 2004 the parties would have been behind the bjp . they could have mustered up the numbers if they wanted , but not many wanted to join them . remember in 2004 the NDA consisted of 23 parties . today it has 4 .

.
Are you kidding me comparing great Modi with a goon bihari

Though I am avid supporter of NaMo but You should have refrained from using term ”bihari goon” for Kumar.
How did you came to conclusion that he is a bihari goon ?? Let me guess.
Did that goon bihari kidnapped your kids,or murdered your family members ,or robbed or raped someone from your family or he did everything I mentioned above ???

in 2004 nda did not have sufficient seats....if they had got about 200 seats then most of the fence sitters would have jumped to nda camp and not upa camp....for example dmk.....

indian politics is about power.....nothing else....the politicians will do a deal with the devil if they can get close to power....

and those harping on nitish secularism...he campaigned in gujarat assembly elections for modi in 2002 immediately after the riots......so where did the secularism come suddenly after so many years....

as i keep saying...nitish vs modi is an artificially hyped up debate which all started after that congress plant shankarsinh thakur became his media advisor.....but nitish is not as foolish as congress thinks and he will be pragmatic....

there are rapists from all parts of the ccountry... people from all parts again block roads for political and religious processions.....no point singling out biharis alone....you are just being a jerk.......
