Agree that the US response would be much more effective than Mumbai.

One of the criticisms of Mumbai was how poorly equipped the police were. WW2 rifles and sticks aren't much help against AK-47's and other automatic weapons. Then there was response timings, with the NSG waiting for transportation to take them to Mumbai being based in Delhi I think. In India's defence, the unique and brazen nature of the attack was unexpected and preparation for such an event wasn't there.

However, one must also bear in mind that IF a highly trained and determined group of 6 or 7 people with automatic weapons, grenades etc. went on a hardened rampage in a crowded city, then it would only take 15 or so minutes before you had a body count of 50-100 people.

I don't think that's an exaggeration.

One good thing that came out of 26/11 is that the Police are well equipped,minimum of 2 Sukhoi's ready at each and every Air Base and NSG's new camp at Mumbai.
So you now,can't say that the Indian police isn't well equipped.

I have heard that the Indian police is now equiped with Tanks aswell

Indian police is always reactive. Now we are prepared for an event like 2611 (I seriously doubt that though).

However, we are not sure in what manner our friends are gonna send their mercenaries next time. Question should be are we prepared for next attack instead of are we prepared for attack that has already happened?

The biggest failure during 2611 was not lack of equipment, but failure of gathering accurate information and react to it in a timely fashion.
