What's new

New rendition of Amar shonar Bangla released on 16.12.12

How can you be so sure that majority loves that slow gay song that has nothing to do with Bangladesh's culture, people and ideology.

National referendum should be conducted and then we can draw our conclusion.

1. I never said they "love it", in fact I even pointed out children find it a boring ritual to read it at school. Though I have never seen people hate it as much as some of the online characters on this forum.

2. We have more important things to do than conduct a national referendum on a relatively trivial issue such as this.

If you want to change it, then you need to persuade people, bring convincing arguments and start meaningful intellectual discourse. Over time when there is a societal consensus then maybe it can be changed.

Don't worry we Bangladeshis defeated razakars in 1971 and gave them a dam good beating.

For the past 40 years they have been living in agony due to the existence of an independent Bangladesh, not run by whisky drinking perverts like Bhutto or Yahya Khan (their heroes).

Apart from crying they can do nothing, as they have been defeated and we are independent.

:)

Such a sick argument.
If majority of Bangladeshi's had a negative view of Tagore, his song would never be your national Anthem.
He was a nobel winner in literature.
You don't know what bigot means. Reminds of a movie(forgetting the name) where Nicole Kidman was scared of the ghost throughout the movie, but herself was the ghost.
People like you must be living in shame who can't take pride in their national anthem because it symbolizes their oppression.
Bangladeshis can't be so senseless and sick. You must be an exception.
Arguing any further with you is like banging one's head against the wall.
Both Tagore and Zaid Hamid are anti Muslim-Bengali.

^^^I don't understand why does Indian @ss burn on fire in such threads? This simply has nothing to do with them. :)

So, in order to become so called "Bangladeshi(your version)" one must be Bhart lover, Tagore worshiper and dhoti culture loving Bengali. Is that it?

I have some questions to you, Mr defender of Bengali culture.

1-Why a Muslim have to endorsed a song that has roots in Shirk ?
2-Do a Muslim has the right to defend his emaan or not?
3-Why defending Islamic principals some ways or other get tagged with 71, razakar and Pakistan?
3-What's Pakistan or Razakar has to do with Islam and Muslims in modern Bangladesh?

He was a womanizer and alcoholic just like most great artists. Who cares what political views he held? If you cant enjoy his art without bringing politics into it, you need your head checked.

Even when i was not into political islam, i didn't like that writer! Well, his Rabindrasangit is world class, still Jasimuddin, Nazrul , forrukh ahmed attracted me more! I have read Nazrul's rikter bedon, bethar daan without stopping days after days while tagore was always Boring! Saratchandra is also far better story writer than Tagore! Only reason Nazrul wasnt given Nobel - he was anti british, while Tagore was their boot licker!! We all know nobel is a political prize, it doesn't give someone immunity to criticism!

Usual Rajakars vilifying Tagore. Time to post some Cartoons.

.
 who cares under which circumstances it was made, but the meaning is by no means anti-muslim

The meaning is antimuslim..... Its purpose was to disenfranchise the Muslims of Bengal. You may not care but I find it offensive. It's directly against the sprit of Bangladesh.

I partially agree with you.

1. I agree with you in that it is distasteful that the whole purpose of the song is against Muslim emancipation.

It is like making a song written by traitor Zaid Hamid against the independence of Bangladesh, our national anthem.

Or a song opposed to the Indian struggle for independence against the British, the national song of India.

2. However it has been our anthem for decades and until we build a general societal consensus against its change then not much can be done.

Also there are a lot of memories connected to this song, no matter how dubious its origins and author.

.
Would some Rajakar explain to me how exactly is this song anti-Muslim, shirk and all that jazz. Not that you guys matter but still it's amusing to see you lot frothing in hate an anger.

My Bengal of Gold,
I love you.

Forever your skies,
Your air set my heart in tune
As if it were a flute.

In spring, O mother mine,
The fragrance from your mango groves
Makes me wild with joy,
Ah, what a thrill!
In autumn, O mother mine,
In the full blossomed paddy fields
I have seen spread all over sweet smiles.

Ah, what beauty, what shades,
What an affection, and what tenderness!
What a quilt have you spread
At the feet of banyan trees
And along the banks of rivers!

Oh mother mine, words from your lips
Are like nectar to my ears.
Ah, what a thrill!
If sadness, O mother mine,
Casts a gloom on your face,
My eyes are filled with tears!

But I do agree, this song doesn't fit to be Bangladesh national anthem, when Tagore wrote it, he didn't have the Rajakar infested cesspool in his mind.

he was anti british, while Tagore was their boot licker!! We all know nobel is a political prize, it doesn't give someone immunity to criticism!

Is that what jamat and hizb teach you guys or did you have Nawabs of Dhaka in mind when you said bootlicker. There's a difference in Nobel prize in Peace and Nobel prize in literature.
