New Iranian-made 6x6 UGV Unmanned Ground Vehicle unveiled during National Army Day

21 APRIL 2019

On April 18, 2019, Iran has unveiled new technology of UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) during the National Army Day military parade. This new UGV seems to be very similar to the Phantom 1 developed by the Ukrainian defense industry.

New Iranian-made 6x6 UGV Unmanned Ground Vehicle unveiled during the National Army Day military parade, April 18, 2019.

The Iranian 6x6 UGV is able to perform a variety of tasks in complex urban environments. It can be used to conduct different type of missions’ mission including combat, reconnaissance, ammunition transportation to forward operating bases, and evacuation of wounded soldiers from the battlefield. During the parade, the new Iranian-made UGV was armed with two MANPADS (Man-portable air-defense systems) launchers mounted on the top of the vehicle.

There is no information about the technical features of the new UGV, but the vehicle is based on a 6×6 all-wheel drive chassis and can be remotely operated by a single soldier's thanks to the use of a command and control station, which comprises a laptop with user control panel.

As for all modern UGV, the Iranian seems to be fitted with a sighting system that includes stabilized day/night sight. The sighting system allows the weapons to perform precise firings against targets during the day and at night.

Optical cameras are mounted all-around the vehicle to provide a 360° view for the operators.

Why does all our millitary stuff look like they were made in student workshops?

Are these smoke grenades? Do you think this vehicle would need them?

I am still scratching my head to see the relevance of this vehicle...is this some kind of special Ops vehicle..if so how...why it has mand pad..I just can not see operationally what it does other than maybe approach a vehicle borne IED to inspect and destroy but even that can be done with other means...I am sure there is a good reason why they have it . As Mithridates mentioned fire support (but don't you need few of them with high caliber machine gun for that!..never been in a war so sorry if I am asking the obvious!) ..if nothing at all just a technology demonstrator for sensors and remote control (the left headlight is indeed IR emitters to illuminate the target)..the chassis appears to be commercially available ATV. The carriage base and the vehicle itself as a full set looks great (not student project) keeping in mind that due to the limited quantities required no military will produce them in a assembly line fashion.

More likely to be used by SWAT or counter terrorism units during raids to observe an area or check for traps.

Technology demonstrator at this point.
