New Chinese mainland dramas big hit among Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas audiences

US movies have the advantage of English language while Chinese ones don't, but that'll change with time, Chinese dramas now is beoming popular first in East Asia where peoples share similar cultural heritage, expanding out of this region is the next step.
and money, very important. most hollywood movies cost over 100 m bucks to make. money allowed them to make realistic cgi an visual effects. a lot of people go see movies just for that, not really for story. that poop movie, transformers, is good example of that :D

US now is targetting Chinese market, that's why they are making many Chinese theme movies, China already overtook North American and became the biggest movie market in revenue, that's where the money from, you make movie to make money, money from the market, the bigger the market you are ,the higher tha money you can make and invest. See now the top movie studios are all in China.

Hengdian World Studios and Wanda Qingdao Studio both claim the world biggest, I don't know which one really is...

According to latest information released by the China Movie Data Information Network, the Chinese box office has officially overtaken the North American box office with a difference of almost a billion dollars. As of yet, following the first quarter and almost finishing the second quarter of 2018, China has surpassed the United States to acquire the title of the world’s largest movie market of the year.

After the final digits were released to the public, it was evident that the Chinese box office acquired a total of 20.21 billion Yuan, or 3.17 billion USD within the first quarter of the year, whereas the North American box office barely reached 2.85 billion USD. The main cause behind these drastic differences is expected to be the immense rise in domestic Chinese produced films, which also made the list of the top 10 movies watched in the country, thereby acquiring almost 15 billion Yuan for the box office.

The military superhit Operation Red Sea was evidently the top-grossing film in Chinese theatres from January to March, solely being the reason for a revenue of 3.6 billion Yuan. Other movies like Detective Chinatown 2, and Monster Huntalso collaborated with Operation Red Sea to account for more than half of the total box office revenue during this time.

Despite Beijing restricting most of the foreign movies from being allowed to screen in China, American films like Black Panther, and Pacific Rim Uprising reached up to the second position during March’s calculations for the box office. The reason behind this sudden increase in Chinese box office revenue is also expected to be due to the fact that the country allowed an extended holiday for the Lunar New Year in February, which luckily coincided with many of the popular films being screened in the country.

That's why I say money is not a problem cause we have the market, the problems are language barriers and other cultural related elements, the world movie market has been dominated by the west for so long, it's hard to change it in a very short span of time.

No....I'd say the recently completed "The Americans" on FX or "Better Call Saul" on AMC are better shows than Game of Thrones. An when has China ever created a show as great and influential as The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, or Mad Men? I could keep going.....Chinese shows are nonexistent on the world stage.

Not saying there aren't quality US shows, but it's English language that helps market American show to the world. If you know anything abt world cinema, many great films and dramas are produced by non-English speaking European and East Asians (Chinese)

Despite language barrier, Chinese dramas and films are very influential. Just that China-hating Indian/American like you refused to acknowledge. Fact speaks for itself, many Chinese works have been made into video game and manga by American and Japanese companies, such as latest Total War, its Chinese Three Kingdoms.

Martin Scorsese's The Departed won 5 Oscars including Best Picture, was a remake of Chinese movie. Fame director don't usually do remake, remake films don't usually win award. lol.

Quentin Tarantino is a huge fan and many of his works are inspired by Chinese cinema, Reservoir dogs, Kill Bill...

Here’s the Movie That Gave Us Quentin Tarantino’s Career

All Time Top grossing foreign films in the US (and EU) are dominated by Chinese.

No 1. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)

No 3. Hero (2002)

No 7. Fearless (2006)

11. Kung Fu Hustle (2004)

Language barrier excuse again? If Chinese films and shows were truly great/influential they would find a worldwide audience. Your top grossing film of all time, Wolf Warrior 2, made almost no money overseas.

I just watched this. 1 hour of my life i will never get back. You all need to Watch Turkish Dramas instead. :enjoy:

Not going to go into details, but u guys know who the biggest copycat of Chinese lit? STAR WARS

Legend of Condor Heroes 1957 (LoCH)
Return of Condor Heroes 1959 (RoCH)

SW Ep IV 1977 (copies LoCH/RoCH storyline)

A certain director from the West had over a decade to familiarize himself with these famed works from Hong Kong. Of course it helped that HK was under British control during this period to sort of help it spread to the West.

And the copying continues to this day:

Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber 1963 (HSDS)

SW Ep VII-IX (takes after HSDS by the same author of LoCH/RoCH) -> blue saber = Heaven Sword; fiery red saber = Dragon Saber; Rey is Zhang Wuji with sex change, Snoke is baldy Chen Kun, etc.

Also, here's a joke I often make. You guys know why lightsaber blades r straight? Einstein said gravity can bend light, so of course SW universe can make curved blades of the lightsabers if wanted to like a Japanese katana. So, SW blades r straight coz Chinese swords r for the most part straight...

It's most likely not the same theme as the novel.

Must say those talent shows, musical shows from China are fantastic, so much talent.
Afraid all of you don't have as much time as I to enjoy.
Are these musicals popular with Vietnamese, @Viet ?
.

Yes, the musical shows and other talent shows are really of their own class and extremely popular here in Taiwan, too. People become addicted.

Should not let American to save the world only and let us(Chinese) play as bad men in the movie, Chinese also should be responsible for saving the world in the movie, and let the world know how USA overthrow the regime of Panama, split the Yugoslavia, bombed the Iraq for washing powder, train the terrorist among other countries, let people know the truth.

Definitely, I never go watch such China-US co-productions with US actors given lead roles. They are, to me, disgraceful.
