While I doubt such a bill can be put on the floor right now, but if it is then that will surely result in another military coup.

In the 90's whenever the governments of Bibi or Nawaz went a bit too far with their corruption and nepotism they were removed from office by the president using powers vested in him by amendment 58-2b. But NS was not happy with that so when he got the two third majority in his second term, he removed the amendment. We all know how that ended up for him, with president no longer able to remove the prime minister, Army had to intervene directly (not condoning it at all).

Now Musharaf's tenure was disastrous for the Army's image and prestige, Kiani and Raheel Sharif has done well in re-building it and Bajwa will like to keep it that way. Army does not want to take over, but they want reforms, a strong economy and less corruption from the political class. So they are indeed exerting their influence to let's say support the other institutions do their job properly.

With these amendments, that influence will erode. NAB will again become useless and the only path left for the Army will be to either accept the situation and retreat or go for military take over.

And I think that is what NS and co want. They want an open confrontation with army, they want political martyrdom.

Although you've some valid points but '71 is not a fault of Army alone Bhutto had more share in it and as far as Ayub is concerned than he is still the best guy we ever got to lead our country no one came to his level either from military or civilian. But this is also a truth that curses like Bhutto or Nawaz or so many problems Pakistan face today military dictators are indeed responsible for those problems the 4th one contributed most to those problems.
