Now thats interesting. The dutch prime minister Rutte said last week that turkish politicians are not welcome in the Netherlands to do political campaigns.

This was a clear message but it seems it was not understood in Turkey. Turkish foreign minister Cavusoglu said he will go there, no matter what.

This is an direct attack against dutch sovereignty. Turkish president Erdogan even threatened sanctions.

So the turkish foreign minister did fly to Netherlands today and the durch officials withdrew the landing permit.

Now Turkish president is foaming again.

Meanwhile the German city Essen cancelled a campaign speech of the turkish family minister.

I honestly dint understand what Turkey tries to achieve. It is absolute diplomatic madness to believe that you can do campaigns in a foreign nation.

Its even more madness to escalate this further when the PM of that country says this is not wanted.

There is no example in history where something like this happened. THat a nation believes it can do campaigns in other countries. There are large groups of Russians in Germany and Italy. Never has Putin come to make election campaigns.

And sure enough Turkey started calling the Netherlands nazis.Turkey foreign policy regarding Europe lately.....;*nazis,nazis! You re nazis! ,*....more foaming at the mouth....,*nazis!,,*....very imaginative, lol.

I love the treathening sanctions part, seems like Erdo is like a 6 year old when it comes to empty threats.

There are large groups of Russians in Germany ...

May be because they are Germans and do not have the right to vote in Russia?

Besides Turkey is a NATO memeber - an ally, whereas Russia is the supposed enemy, remeber?

Or are you saying Turkey is no more an ally and should be treated as an adversary?

The Netherlands has a policy of not letting foreign politicians do political campaigns on their soil.Turks living in Holland are supposed to be Dutch first.Despite being warned,Cavusoglu tried to ignore Dutch authorities in their own country. He was rightfully sent packing.

No they are russian citizens and have voting rates in russia.

We can twist it around. There live more than one million Italians in Germany. None of our politicians did ever make election campaigns in Germany.

1) Russia is not an ally (look at the stated policy of NATO).
2) Do you want to tell me that no ally country has ever run any election campaign in another allied country within Europe or America?

The funny thing is that all these countries taking moral high ground never stop ranting if their own funded "NGOs" in other countries are banned for blatant political interference in the internal affairs of that country.

Then it is "human rights violations" and what not.

I am fine with the policy of Netherlands, no issues.

My problem is only the hypocrisy they show when any of the Western country itself is on the receiving end.

The way Turkey is trying to cozy up with Russia and China, it is acting more like a NATO adversary.

. .
Yes, italy has never done election campaigns in foreign countries. Its seen as diplomatic rudeness to do so.

The question was not this.

The question was whether an ally country has never done any electoin camapagin in another ally country (say European country in Europe or USA)?

BTW, here most recent example of how "Italy never runs election camapaigns in other countries" (this is just one example, I haven't dug deeper).

An Italian Politician Campaigns for Hillary Clinton in Philadelphia

Gianni Pittella, a longtime Italian member of the European Parliament, hit the campaign trail this week. Sitting at the back of the Gran Caffe L’Aquila, he warned a group of local businesspeople and supporters of the evils of fascism. Except Pittella wasn't touring Italy. He was sitting in Philadelphia, trying to convince American voters to oppose an American candidate: Donald Trump.

The way Turkey is trying to cozy up with Russia and China, it is acting more like a NATO adversary.

Isn't India the best buddy of Russia? Does that make her adversary of USA / NATO? And did that stop her from renting her country to USA in case america requires bases to bomb another country?

I did not know Hillary Clinton stands for election in Italy?

I think you dont get it. It is a diplomatic taboo to bring your internal politics on the soil of another country. Cavolsoglu is welcome in the Netherlands to promote Rutte or Wilders. He is not welcome in Netherlands to bring turkish interior politics on dutch soil.

Beside that the turkish Foreign minister openly said he can go whereever he wants and threatened the Netherlands with sanctions. With that he insulted the dutch sovereignty.

The Netherlands have teh duty to protect their citizens against this and they did so. I applaud that. Erdogan may have to know that the Netherlands are not a turkish province. Germany isnt a turkish province. Austria isnt a turkish province and Switzerland isnt a turkish province as well.

Turkey has zero power there and evry action they want do there must be supported by the local government.

Austria banned any turkish politicians to perform any campaign on their land. Switzerland did so as well. In Germany the various communal cities did ban such events and now Netherlands did go a step further and teached Mr Cavusoglu something about international law and sovereignty.

Mr. Cavusoglu btw seems to see the turkish people in the Netherlands as his private property because he said now that "I have send them there to help the dutch economy".

A commentator of RAI TV said today that what we see here is an "Imperial way of thinking without an Empire".

It is important to show up the red lines. Turkey didn´t understood this in the past and has to learn that now.

Mr. Cavosoglu and President Erdogan are free to hold their campaigns in Turkey.

But they should spare Europe this smear comedy. Their family minister was banned in the german town Essen today and now travels per Train to the Netherlands.

There is not much room to the bottom anymore. I have never seen any other government before that acts that pathetic.

In the end it just shows that this comedy may end soon. The dutch landing ban pushed thhis further so we hopefully can have a clear cut soon.

Or as another commentator on RAI TV said:

"What we witness here is the most pathetic smear comedy in the last 200 years. We watch in horror as we see this Horror Movie Picture Show. Filled with low class actor, slimy nationalism, cheap despotic nonsense and teh doors are locked. We cant get out and have to keep watching. May god help us"

The US made Pakistan an important ally despite knowing that the latter was best buddies with China and they not only took Pakistani territory and facilities on rent but also refused to pay part of the rent while they undertook operations in Afghanistan. But such a thing happens when a small nation confuses its utility for a bigger nation as friendship.

I don't understand, why do they need campaign in foreign countries? Does Turkish expat has voting rights at home?

I don't want to get into a discussion on this issue but in the previous elections Turkish politicians gone to Holland and they hold their campaigns there. There were no bans there.

The worse thing is, AKP blaming these Europeans countries for supporting "No" vote and banning their campaigns. And they appeal to public like "These European countries are enemies of us and they are supporting "No" vote.

Eu countries banning AKP's campaigns in the pretext of "We don't want to part of a campaign which will result in more authoritarian powers for Erdoğan." Directly benefits Erdoğan.....

The funny thing is CHP (main opposition party, supporter of "No" vote) canceled all of their campaign's in Europe after today's decision....to not play in to AKP's hand like these European countries did....

I don't understand, why do they need campaign in foreign countries? Does Turkish expat has voting rights at home?
1-) Yeap, they do as they are have dual citizenships, they are citizens of Turkey and right to vote.
2-) Till this date, at the past elections Turkish politicians hold rallies in the European countries, there were no bans at the time.

AKP meeting in Germany.

All this is creating an "us vs them" situation and Erdogan will come out as a winner as a result.

YEP YEP YEP!!
Erdogan already won the referundum... with this incoming "sanction".
They wanted to prevent it... but they are playing wrong, same with their far rights... Seems they didn't learn the lesson from their own mistakes...
Anyway, Erdogan should thanks them...after April vote...
Have Fun Turkey...
