what will be the approx. cost of extending warranty for dell laptop ?
Go to dell site. You can add it yourself, upgrade RAM/HD and see final price. I paid equivalent of 8000 rs for extended waranty, but in India you wont need it I guess.

They offered me a global warranty for Rs. 5000. I have an existing warranty available for another 765 days.

I'm using a Sony VAIO for over 2 years and never had any issues so far. But its slightly costly. The Asus Laptop suggested by 'hawx' is a good one for your budget. The 2nd gen Core i5 with Nvidia GT630M gpu is good for gaming/multitasking and with an additional Rs 1300/- you can upgrade memory to 8GB. Will be a Good value for money purchase.. Though I dont know about the service centre network of Asus.

Extending the warranty to 3 years would cost you something about 5000 bucks or so.

What r u talking i have been talking to dell support just 2 months back and they say, full replacement warranty for 1 year is 6500 INR, now it could be more because of usd appreciation.Remember one thing Dell rate vary daily too as they look at USD vs INR in pricing but their support is best. Just 4 months back due to some loose part in mother board my latops's display stopped working. Was biting nails for the data, the support guys in Hyderabad have a 2 business days in model and on the second day the guy came to my place looked in and just replaced the whole LCD if i bought it would have cost 16000 INR more , half the cost of Laptop. Loved it.

Asus provides best VFM as of now.. Good processor + decent RAM + decent graphics + decent hard drive..

Go for it I must say.. After sales service is not that great but it will improve in the coming days as they are trying to get the brand established in India.. And anyway, not much support is needed in the first couple of years of buying it... And by the time you need it, warranty will hold no good... Go for ASUS.. Best in class/budget...!!

PS : Lenovo is the shittiest..!! Better throw the money out of a running train before you think of buying it..!! :hitwall: :hitwall: :china:

If you can stretch your budget to a little more, you can opt for Dell XPS 15. You can get a i5 at around 50k.

It's after sales service will blow your mind. I got my HDD replaced within 24 hours.

Toshiba, Sony Vaio, Asus, Acer, Dell.. Based on my personal liking, I have listed them in order.. Macbook is the best but I don't think you are looking of it.

Stay away from HP, Lenovo.. They are trash.. HP heats up after 20 minutes of use and it feels like you just took it out of oven. Lenovo breaks down every now and then for one reason or other. Extremely unreliable..
