there are reports that Germany tested their first Atomic Bomb in Norway Coast on 1944.though scientists simply denying it.but this may be true as Germany started Nuclear Bomb projects way before USA did.

Adolf Hitler promised the German people that 'wonder weapons' being devised by his scientists would win World War Two.

The Nazi leader's boast was finally put to the test seven decades later in the US last night.

An array of fantasy projects - from a tank weighing 1,000 tons that no road could support to a long-distance rocket that could have pounded London or New York into brick dust - were debated on the ABC TV show Nazi Secret Weapons.

It became a common belief among the Third Reich elite towards the end of the war that the Fuhrer was putting his faith in hi-tech weaponry to repel the enemy at the gates.

The programme looked at whether any of these projects could in fact have swung the war in the Nazis' favour.

Using blueprints and plans allied to modern computer technology, National Geographic scientists and military historians analysed Hitler's plans to see if the war might have had a different ending.


The Nazis already led the world in many fields by the time the Reich crumbled - V1 and V2 rockets; the Messerschmitt 262 jet-engined plane; submarines able to stay submerged longer than any other; Tabun and Sarin gases capable of killing millions.

But it was what the Third Reich did not manufacture in time that could have changed the world forever.

The TV show examined a Messerschmitt 264 Bomber. Codenamed the 'America Bomber' because that was to be its goal, this leviathan was intended to fly non-stop across the Atlantic and back again - something no aircraft of the time could do.

It was designed to carry a 6.5ton bomb that it would drop on East Coast war plants.

Although Hitler was said to be 'consumed' by this project, the more conventional bombers flown by the RAF and the USAAF destroyed all the prototypes before the first one left the ground.

The programme also looked at a 1,000ton tank something called The Rat.

Given that the heaviest production-line tank of WW2 was the 60 ton Tiger, this project showed up the 'gigantism' that consumed Hitler - in architecture, murder and weaponry.

Designed to be 114-feet long, fitted with huge 280mm naval guns as well as eight anti-aircraft batteries, the idea was that the tank was to be a mobile gun battery, a fortress on tracks.

'The Rat tank had such a large diameter projectile that its destructive force would have been absolutely enormous: many, many feet of concrete, tremendous blast, tremendous killing power,' engineer Peter Robbins told National Geographic.

But no road or bridge could hold it, and its slow speed would have made it vulnerable to hunter-killer aircraft. It was testament to Hitler's increasingly demented thinking and in 1943 armaments minister Albert Speer cancelled the project.

One turret of the The Rat was cast; it was used to mount a coastal gun in Norway.

The Nazis also developed something called the FX 1400, a radio-guided bomb.

In September 1943 this radio-guided bomb was used against one of the biggest battleships in the Italian navy, the Roma, after Italy surrendered to Hitler's fury.

In just 35 minutes, after two direct hits, the ship sank, taking 1,200 sailors with her to the depths.

A couple of days later, Hitler turned his attention to the U.S. Navy, targeting the USS Savannah, a cruiser used for U.S. landings in Southern Italy. Luckily for it, the bomb was so powerful it went through the ship like butter, blowing up only after exiting the hull.

Other weapons that comforted Hitler as his world collapsed included the Viper, the world's first vertical take-off plane. Ten of these were ready for action at Kircheim Unter Tech in southwest Germany during 1945 but were never used against the enemy.

His scientists also made an acoustic cannon, which was supposed to be able to kill men with sound waves at a range of 70 yards. But it didn't work and the project was junked. (wow!!! like the aliens??) @Armstrong @thesolar65 @Skull and Bones

But the Germans did turn out a wind cannon, which could shatter wooden boards at a distance of 200 yards with jets of compressed air. The wind cannon was ready for action at a bridge over the Elbe in 1945 but was never used.

Nazi insane weaponry

The Nazi Party controlled Germany during a crisis and, in the end, committed countless atrocities against man. They were, basically, an evil regime. We all know that.

But what most people DON'T know about the Nazis is that they dreamt up some pretty insane weaponry. Thank God they were stopped and never had a chance to flesh out these ideas...



1.) Zeppelin Rammer

This plane was supposed to be towed by another plane. It would be set free whenever the pair approached an Allied plane. The Zeppelin Rammer would then fly toward the enemy plane, firing rockets at it and finally crash into it using its reinforced wings.

This plane was designed to be very easily mass produced and easy to fly. The Nazis were suffering heavy pilot casualties and they needed planes that were so easy to fly even novices could learn quickly. These planes turned out to be extremely complicated to fly though and during test flights the wings would catch on fire.

This rocket launcher was meant to be fired at planes that flew overhead. The main reason it failed was that it had a very short range, so it could only hit planes that were SUPER close to the ground, so very few were produced.

This wooden plane was designed to be a replacement for cargo carrying ships. The flight of the plane was incredibly unstable and it proved to be less useful as the tank it was carrying fell through the bottom of the plane. Since the plane was made of wood, it was chopped up and used as fuel.

This was essentially a submarine with rockets strapped to it. Because of the lack of technology, the rockets were extremely hard to guide underwater.

This rocket was meant to finally put an end to the onslaught of allied bombers that were devastating the German forces. They were unguided missles that would be fired at the planes. They were relatively cheap and easy to make, plus they were practical since the Allied bombers were large and made for easy targets.

Guns that can fire around corners? Seems pretty genius. They were fitted with mirrors as well so that soldiers could see what was coming around said corner.

This kamikaze plane was to be flown by German pilots. It carried a rocket so that it would cause serious damage to the target. Pilots would acquire a target and they were supposed to eject to avoid death. The problem was that the ejection was so violent that many pilots died during the test flights.

This wasn't necessarily a "gun" per se, but actually a mirror. This mirror would be sent into orbit and strategically aimed to bounce the sun's rays into the ocean to boil the water and in turn destroy cities.


Thankfully, the Nazis were stopped before many of these weapons were ever perfected. If they actually managed to create a giant mirror to attack different cities around the globe? They would have successfully become super villains.

They are cool weapons.

But not the game changers. Not in the numbers they were produced and not the tech they were based on.

Hitler and Nazis ignored one important aspect. Building the top navy with at least 7 ACs and support groups of ACs.

Japanese in that respect were far ahead of Nazis.


Due to bad navy (just some heavy hitter battle ships like Bismark and its sister ship), Nazis were land and air only, missing the third and important leg. Their focus was on subs, but subs cannot bring fuel and supplies home. They are bad defense weapons.


And thus totally out matched and outclassed by their opponents US/UK.

They were producing heavy water in a plant in Norway but the allies did a commando op and destroyed the plant thus stopping the Germans access to heavy water.

Ersatz just means substitute. During the war the Germans had many Ersatz substances including ersatz coffee made from acorns.Actually Ethanol can be made from just about any vegetable material (since it is obtained by the fermentation of sugar)

Remember, the German submarine fleet caused total havoc among allied merchant fleets crossing the Atlantic to bring supplies to the UK and the USSR. In fact, the vital supplies of food, fuel and resources for the UK almost collapsed at on point during the battle which would have been a death sentence for the UK.

But in the end American industrial might of pumping out ships like no one else on the world and the British masterstroke of capturing and decoding the top secret Enigma machine turned the tide of the battle.

did you google the misile you were talking about??I could find only V-1 /buzz bombs which came close to your description...but neither does it look like a balloon nor is it slow.V-1 looks almost like an aircraft...and beat this that it had plywood wings. Lol

Actually I think he is talking about something the Japanese had...they were working on hydrogen filled balloons with attached incendiary bombs. The concept was that these balloons would be carried by the wind above the Pacific ocean to America and Canada and then the bombs would be dropped. They wanted to burn farmlands and cities. However this project was not successful and was abandoned.

AC's of Britain death the death blow to bismark and you say they didn't play a role.

AC's + British American navy was crucial in the route of Germans in Africa.

In essence British American navies in Atlantic stopped Hitler from resupplying at the level he needed.
