Navy set to issue tender for new submarines

S-80 Super Scorpene all the way.

U-216 and Amur-1650 are yet to be built and it'll a good many years to see them
in IN service that way, not to mention cost escalation problem with Russians.

S-80 with advanced Stirling AIP system and MICA SAMs is the best option.

Has anyone considered the possibility to modify the 70-km ranged Barak-2
(naval VLS-launched variant of Barak-8) for S-80 SSKs? Its IMO a better missile
than MICA.

I think B-8s will only be used on P-15A & B destroyers not on any SSKs, they will be inducted as a better version for Barak missiles on-board Indian ships.

No, it's not possible to integrate Active-Radar homing SAM to submarine. MICA is a IR seeking missile, it acquires target after launch, while active radar homing missiles acquires target before launch, or the launch platform offers mid-course guidance until it acquires the target, which isn't possible for a submarine to provide for the obvious reasons.

Yes you're right...even if the SSK makes use of a surface-based radar to acquire the target ASW aircraft, the datalink can be tracked giving away SSK's location.

The S80 has no Stirling AIP:

Also the naval MICA might only be available with French subs, the land attack capability is doubtful as well, just like the whole sub is a mix of foreign parts, which will make it more than difficult for the S80 to have a chance. Imo it will be between Scorpenes and U214, while I hope for a team up with the Germans for the U216 in a seperate deal.
