NLCA SP-1 and SP-2 (Mark-1)are the test bed, for the Carrier operations and various subsystem and the validation of various Aerodynamic laws. The Navy will only induct the Mark 2 powered by F-414 engine with more thrust, to carry the usefull load during the carrier operation.


For the Record

There have been 96 flights in the past 104 days. Of these, 53 have been on the naval versions and 25 on trainers.

NP2 alone flew 18 test sorties in 11 days, NP1 12

Mk-1 Naval of LCA Tejas however could be used as Trainer and shore based combat plane. It could also be adapted by IAF as a ground attack combat plane, to replace MIG-27, equiped with nose mounted IRST, and laser Range finder aka NAV attack.

Its the hieght, for more clearance for the Carrier operation because the plane have to keep the nose up quickly during the short takeoff, and the Size of the LCA is also small so no need of the folded wings.

The front wheel is also single wheel and not a pair.

think of it this way why do kids since in there 9th grade start prepairing for IIT or medical or CA/MBA when there first goal should be best % in 12th class marks
