A very pragmatic step since then to bar any fly pasts by single engined aircraft. Considering the huge amounts of people directly below the fly past route (already they will be flying abnormally low) and heavily congested airspace (thanks to all the other aircraft in the air performing in the fly past ) not to mention the very nature of those below the fly past route are the most elite in india (prime minister, cabinet ministers, service Cheifs, president, Vice President, visiting head of state etc) it is just not worth the risk flying a single engine bird in this event. In 89 Mirage 2000 had bird strike while doing a flypast on air force day , Pilot Wg Cdr Ramesh Bakshi avoided crashing in crowd and parade area but was killed . In Republic day too few years back had bird strike but was able to land , since then IAF decides to avoid single engines aircrafts .

Always gets me that the pilot navigated his stricken Mirage away from the crowds by staying in the aircraft but in doing so it cost his own life.
