After years of delays, Israel may open offices in its Brussels headquarters, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization advised Jerusalem on Tuesday, and may complete the process of credentials for its representatives, the Foreign Ministry stated.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed during the weekly Likud ministers meeting on Wednesday that the decision to allow Israel to open the offices was enabled after Turkey rescinded the veto it had imposed in recent years on any Israeli activity with NATO.

Israel is not a member of NATO but is a country with which the international alliance has close ties. According to NATO's rules for collaborating with unaffiliated countries, unanimous consent of the member nations is necessary.
After the Mavi Marmara flotilla incident in May 2010, in which nine Turkish civilians on the ship trying to break the Gaza blockade were killed, Turkey instituted sanctions against Israel, one of which was to constrain Israeli activity with NATO. Turkey, a member of NATO, announced shortly after the flotilla incident that it opposed any collaboration between NATO and Israel, especially in military matters.

Consequently, moves to open an Israeli representation in NATO's headquarters were suspended, as were joint projects between Israel and the organization. Israel's participation in joint exercises was also frozen. Turkey rejected heavy pressure from the U.S. and other countries to soften its position.

Jerusalem interprets Turkey's decision to lift the veto as another sign of Ankara's desire to reconcile with Israel and normalize relations, a senior Israeli source said. Just last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu made upbeat comments regarding reconciliation with Israel.

Another round of talks between Israel and Turkey, which is expected to be critical, is slated to take place in mid-May. Most of the disputes have been resolved, including the issue of scaling back the blockade of Gaza. Israel agreed to enable Turkey to execute a number of projects in Gaza, such as building a power station in
collaboration with Germany, and building a desalination plant. The main outstanding dispute is activity by Hamas offices in Turkey. Israel claims these offices engage in planning and financing terrorism in the West Bank.

Congratulations  another victory for the "Ummah".
1000 shades of Turkey...one moment they are Pro-Palestine..next moment they are Israel's bitch.:omghaha:
What have you two done for "Ummah"? This move isn't about Israel but directly about Palestine. When you don't act, or can't do a sh*t about Palestine or any other Muslim people on earth then at least know how to behave for those who try. I doubt people like you, have done anything until now for the countries you originally belong, let alone Palestine!

Keep going If some ridiculous threats of some "Islamic" authorities make you happy and feel victorious then some weapon that has zero advantage over Israel what only leads to massacre of babies, children, elderly, women with no discrimination. Whatever.

What Ummah you are talking about ? the one who constantly cutting each other's throats ? the concept of Ummah was dead back in Rashidun caliph times when Hazart Ali RA and Hazart Ayesha RA comes face to face in a battle ..

What you did was not personal?
What kind of response do you expect from such a comment,Emmenthaler?[/QUO

Turkey doesn't share any Border with Israel. There is no justification for Turkish diplomatic relation with Israel. There are 57 Muslim Countries...there's hardly anything these countries have ever done for Palestine but one thing they did was they never recognized Israel (Except Egypt and Jordan, which is understandable).
Turkey gave Israel the much needed legitimacy..for some cheap favor..:disagree:

Try reading history first before acting like a ''know it all'''.

Even Though I believe Arabs deserve everything they get by siding with western powers to overthrow Ottoman Empire, and selling their lands to Zionists. Turkey is doing more for Palestine then even their Arab kin are.

This office just shortened the chain of communications required. Either way Israel was in connection with NATO nations.

This office allows Israel a direct 1/2 link shorter communication chain with the head commanders.

And Turkey has gotten concessions from Israel. That's how international relations work, scratch my back and i'll scratch yours.

I agree with you though there were also Arabs, who haven't sided anybody else than the Turks, fought untill death and kept fighting after WWI so because of these men, I don't generalize and I know how much love and respect there in Arabic world for Turkey today. We did our best and held our heads high. We're still trying our best today, at least for the memories of our ancestors, who have been protecting these lands and martyred for it, that's enough for me. I actually don't care what some people think of Turkey's Palestine policy lol

You're absolutely correct, I like to be a little blunt :) saves time.

What is this supposed to mean? Nothing. Israel's ties with NATO were always very strong, NATO would intervene on Israel's behalf in every case, the 56-67-73 wars as well as the recent war in Iraq. It just makes these ties open to public eye. This doesn't send message to anybody, besides that it may hint to Russia that Israel is taking NATO's side in Syrian-Ukrainian affairs. Or the West demanded less transparency on Israel's part. Either way, it will continue to be treated like spoiled baby that can have best of both world.

This has no relation to Turkey, Turkey in the end is Turkey, it follows US lead, and there must have been discussion regarding show of force/unity against Russia.
