An organization of Muslim countries can be created (OIC already exists, for example) but making one that is actually worth anything will take a while. Right now the Muslim countries are way too divided - they can, eventually, overcome that, but it'll be a long process and will require people with the right mindset, which again will be a long process.

And it certainly won't be able to challenge NATO anytime soon, not unless China or Russia decide to convert to Islam.

Do you realize how full of bullshit this argument is? 'Savage nature of khilafat', yeah, right. Should we also then abandon capitalism and democracy because the US invades dozens of countries and kills millions of people? Do we abandon medicine when people die of mistakes or overdose to death? The problem with the idea is that the number one problem in the Muslim world is Muslims killing other Muslims over tribal and religious differences. You had fewer problems when it was just the British and French running your countries - maybe you should go back to that instead.

NATO interference makes you feel ashamed (because it shows you can't deal with your problems on your own) but isn't a prime problem.

It would collapse in five minutes because they wouldn't be able to get along and then they would allege a CIA plot was to blame for their failure to get along.

Playing devil's advocate here, it really isn't in the best interests of the US and NATO to see another military alliance pop up, especially one that would be as huge as the one that OP suggests. If an alliance was formed and disintegrated eventually, be honest, would you really be surprised if we found out that the CIA had it's hand's behind the collapse?

Of course, this is just speculation. Such an alliance is a ridiculous in today's world, Muslim nations today care more about nationalism and individuality, than a Islamic military union. There is simply too much bickering for them to form any sort of alliance. The closest I can see pop up is an Gulf Arab military alliance, led by either KSA or Qatar.
