National Powerpack Development

Objective: To design, develop and produce powerpack to counter the necessity of powerpack for one in land, in air, naval platforms.

Scope: Design, development, production, test and qualification of powerpack to use in Altay Tank by using utmost national means and capabilities and also by taking technical support and assistance in necessary areas from a foreign company. Gaining complete know-how for powerpack design, development, system integration, production, testing, qualification, modification and maintenance.

Powerpacks will probably produce on Ford Otosan factory. Otosan domestically developes all over of these vehicles but they are selling under name of Ford. I heard that Ford Otosan holds %30-40 of Russian marketshare with Cargo model trucks. Furthermore a lot of models are designing for Ford by Turkish engineers on Turkish Otosan factory. I hope we will see indigenous powerpacks as soon as possible.

All parts of these vehicles designed, developed and produced in Otosan.

İTÜ şimdi bambaşka bir heyecan yaşıyor.



Uzun süredir birlikte çalıştığı proje ortağı TÜMOSAN ile birlikte tank motoru üretimine imza attı. Şimdi İTÜ-TÜMOSAN ortaklığı, Savunma Sanayi Müsteşarlığı'nın eylülde açacağı tank ihalesinde, Ford Otosan ile yarışacak.


İhaleye girmek için zemin yoklayan Alman ve Avusturya şirketleri ise birebir ihaleye girmek yerine "alt destek" üretimi konusunda İTÜ-TÜMOSAN ortaklığıyla çalışmayı kabul etmiş.


İşte, Made in Turkey markası yaratmak bu.


Rektör Şahin, "Üniversitelerimizin yeni YÖK Yasası'yla rekabete açık, performansa dayalı bir modelle özerk hale getirilmesi şart" diye boşuna konuşmuyor.

Itu-Tumosan will compete against Ford-Otosan on National Tank Engine Development Project. We may see more clear news about that tender in the coming days.

Ford-Otosan seems to be better suited to design-develop-produce engines. They've developed the Ecotorq engines for the Ford Cargo truck, and if im not mistaken they continue to pump those engines out.

Engines are of course important, we hope Turkiye will make developing "portable powerpacks" a strategic imperative - a powerpack to power engines.

With national powerpacks for Land (from 75hp to 1500hp), Naval platforms and transmissions, The national contribution of domestic defence programs would have been increased about totaly %90-95. I think That's one of the most strategic project of Turkey.

With national powerpack, Turkey will have joined an elite club which is able to power own designed tanks with domestic powerpacks and transmissions. Only a few countries have such capabilities in World.


If BMC do not participate into tender, Then, Koc Otosan will get the winner. They have enormous capabilities in terms of engine technologies...
